You would be responsible for the development and implementation of a structured life skills curriculum at an innovative and successful low-barriers transitional living site. You will work to create a safe and caring environment for at risk youth in residence and actively contribute to a positive, stable, responsive and responsible environmen as partof the YouthCare team of dedicated staff and volunteers.

Position Title: Life Skills Coordinator Program: Catalyst at Straley House
Job Code: 12 - 613 Reports To: Program Manager
Status: Full Time Classification: Non-Exempt
Salary Range: $13.57 - $14.18 hrly Closing Date: 6/11/2012


WORK SCHEDULE: This position is full time and non-exempt. Work schedule will include some weekends. Flexibility is required. Anticipated initial schedule is: Monday, Tuesday and Sunday 3:45-11:45pm, Wednesday 9am-5pm and Thursday 8am-4pm.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provide on-site supervision of youth.
• Provide crisis intervention and crisis counseling to residents.
• Develop outcome based life skills curricula for use in classroom and one-on-one settings.
• Conduct weekly life skills classes and group outings (average 3 per week).
• Oversee administration of life skills assessment.
• Develop, with assistance from the Data Management and Outcomes Tracking Research Assistant and Program Manager, an evaluation component for the life skills classes.
• Take leadership role in the development of career resources and job search assistance for transitional living residents.
• Gather and disseminate information on community resources.
• Coordinate and monitor house activities including use of computers and phones, kitchen and laundry facilities. Ensure the overall cleanliness of the facility by monitoring and assigning weekly chores.
• Maintain accurate case records. This includes the bimonthly contact sheets, independent living skills checklist and daily staff log. Complete all necessary evaluation tests with assigned residents at graduation.
• Complete incident reports on any facility damage, medical emergencies or any incident which occurs out of the ordinary daily functioning of the house.
• Attend meetings and training sessions as required (a minimum of six in-service or equivalent training sessions per year.
• Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIREMENTS:
• BA degree in a related field and/or 4 years of relevant work experience.
• Strong organizational and administrative skills, attention to detail.
• Ability to deal therapeutically with behaviorally and emotionally challenged youth.
• Demonstrated ability to lead in development of career resources, independent living skills and job search assistance for clients.
• Demonstrated ability to keep accurate case records and notes.
• 1 year experience providing on-site supervision to at-risk youth or young adults. Understanding of emotionally, physically, and sexually abused youth.
• Acceptance of a variety of lifestyles, behaviors, and cultural and spiritual practices.
• Ability to pass a DSHS Criminal Background Check.

PREFERENCES:
• Experience working with young adults in a residential setting.
• Experience working in a low-barrier and harm reduction model.
• Experience providing crisis intervention and support.
• Experiencing developing and/or delivering life skills training and curricula.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Ability to perform moderate physical work, exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and 10 to 20 pounds frequently.
• Ability to climb and descend stairs within a 60 second time frame, a minimum of 10 times a shift.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS -- Within 30 Days of Hire
• Must have current negative TB test
• CPR / First Aid Certification
• Food Handler's Card
• HIV / AIDS Training (minimum 4 hours)
• When driving YouthCare vehicles, you must possess a valid WA State Drivers License and have taken Van Driver Certification Training or an approved Defensive Driving Course.
