The Mentoring Project Coordinator will work for the Center for Service and Community Engagement at Seattle University and coordinate the Redhawk Academic Mentoring program at Washington Middle School (WMS), a newly created program of the Seattle University Youth Initiative (SUYI). This program matches WMS 6th graders who live within the SUYI attendance zone with special trained Seattle University student mentors. Service-learning will be used as a strategy to address college access and success issues. The Mentoring Project Coordinator will receive training and participate in National Days of Service as a member of the statewide AmeriCorps Retention Project team.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND RELATED TASKS:
Coordination and Program Development:
BA/BS degree preferred
Possess a strong desire to pursue social justice through initiatives that connect campus with wider community.
Experience working with people of diverse backgrounds.
Passion for engaging students in service.
Strong organization, problem-solving and written and oral communication skills.
Basic office computer skills, including word processing. Experience with spreadsheets/databases and desktop publishing preferred.
Program management (marketing, event planning, volunteer management) experience.
Strong initiative; self starter. Ability to creatively problem solve.
Curriculum and training development experience preferred.
Enthusiasm and self-direction.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND RELATED TASKS:
Coordination and Program Development:
- Recruit and train Redhawk Academic Mentors who will engage in mentoring, service projects and other service-learning activities.
- Arrange mentor/mentee matches and schedule mentoring sessions.
- Advise and maintain communication with Redhawk Academic Mentors primarily through email and individual meetings.
- Partner with CSCE staff to provide training opportunities and service reflection sessions.
- Consult with WMS staff and SU faculty to ensure quality and relevancy of SU mentoring activities.
- Work with Redhawk leaders to design after school activities to support program objectives, including service learning project.
- Strengthen programmatic infrastructure by developing resources for mentoring best practices.
- Supervise a team of four Redhawk Academic Mentors Leaders.
- Manage student timesheets and payroll for up to seven work study students at who work in the RAM program.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with Seattle U staff, SU affiliated volunteers/service learners, school staff and administration.
- Participate in Retention Project trainings, including orientation, graduation, regional cluster meetings and others as available.
- Participate/Create in Make a Difference Day and MLK Day on campus or in the local community as well as other National Service Days
- Plan large and small scale events related to National Service Days and college access/success efforts.
- Maintain program integrity by adhering to program policies and procedures, including procedures regarding communication and confidentiality.
- Maintain documentation of data related to student (e.g. mentor and mentee) recruitment and activities such as progress reports, and track personal activities using member timesheets.
- Work collaboratively with CSCE staff to support the SUYI and CSCE activities
- Understand and demonstrate the mission, goals and vision of Seattle University.
