As the Community Resource Specialist you will have the opportunity to work with a team making a postive impact in the lives of youth and young adults at YouthCare's James W. Ray Orion Center. You will work to create a safe, respectful, and caring environment for youth and young adults coming from the streets.

YouthCare's James W. Ray Orion Center is a multi-service drop in center for youth ages 13-22. The center offers youth basic needs services including: three meals daily (M-F), showers, laundry, and lockers.
The Orion Center also houses employment programs, an interagency high school site, and GED preparation and tutoring programs. Case management, young adult shelter program and engagement activities are also available during drop-in hours. This is a fast-paced and highly

Position Title: Community Resource Specialist Program: James W. Ray Orion Center
Job Code: 12-829 Reports To: Community Outreach Program Manager
Department: Community Outreach Status: Full-time
Salary Range: $13.57 per hour Closing Date: June 29, 2012
Classification: Non-Exempt

WORK SCHEDULE: Generally Monday -- Friday days and may require working evenings and week-ends.

POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Community Outreach Program Manager, the Community Resource Specialist will provide administrative support for the James W. Ray Orion Center, a program of YouthCare. This position is responsible for welcoming youth participants and volunteers, and facilitating their daily sign-in to the James W. Ray Orion Center. The CRS is responsible for processing donations and assisting in the training of volunteers. The CRS must be able to help maintain a safe milieu, and have strong de-escalation and crisis management skills.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Ensure all front desk functions are covered including: answering agency telephones, maintaining brochures and resource information, opening and closing procedures, as well as welcoming visitors, staff, and participants into Orion.
• Facilitate sign in for youth participants, volunteers, visitors, and community partners.
• Process ingoing and outgoing mail. Sort and distribute Staff/Youth mail
• Assist in training and orienting drop-in volunteers.
• Provide de-escalation and crisis intervention.
• Multi-task in a fast-paced and hectic environment.
• Refer youth to appropriate and necessary services.
• Promote YouthCare programs and daily activities to youth and community partners.
• Participate in regular supervision and weekly staff meetings.
• Complete necessary paperwork on time and accurately.
• Process donations accurately and with great attention to detail.

QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIREMENTS:
• Experience working successfully with homeless and street involved youth.
• Demonstrated ability to build trust and rapport with homeless and high-risk youth populations.
• Ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment.
• Ability to file, sort, and perform data entry.
• Ability to work as a member of a team.
• Ability to operate a 15-passenger van.
• Ability to pass a DSHS Criminal Background Check.
• Reliable attendance and punctuality.
• Acceptance of a variety of lifestyles, behaviors, and cultural and spiritual practices.
• Ability to maintain professional boundaries with clients while building trust and respect.
• Ability to verbally and physically respond to an aggressive person in ways that de-escalate, establish and maintain staff and youth safety.

PREFERENCES:
• Experience working with volunteers
• Knowledge of community resources available for youth and young-adults.
• Understanding of harm reduction philosophy.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Ability to perform moderate physical work, exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and 10 to 20 pounds frequently, and up to 50 pounds of force occasionally.
• Ability to climb and descend stairs within a 60 second time frame, a minimum of 10 times a shift.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS -- Within 30 Days of Hire
• Must have current negative TB test
• CPR / First Aid Certification
• Food Handler's Card
• HIV / AIDS Training (minimum 4 hours)
• De-escalation Training
• When driving YouthCare vehicles, you must possess a valid WA State Drivers License and have taken Van Driver Certification Training or an approved Defensive Driving Course.
