ORGANIZATION SUMMARY:

The Mission of the Boys & Girls Clubs of South Puget Sound (BGCSPS) is to empower all young people to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. We offer programs in the following areas to positively impact their academic success, character and citizenship, and healthy lifestyles: Character and Leadership Development; Health and Life Skills; Arts; Education and Career Development; Sports, Fitness and Recreation; and Technology programs. BGCSPS serves nearly 10,000 youth at 9 branches and 7 outreach sites in Pierce, Mason and Kitsap Counties.

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Manage volunteer recruitment, selection, training, retention and program activities for all Club volunteers.


KEY ROLES (Essential Position Responsibilities):


1. Contributes to operational strategic planning by identifying opportunities for Great Futures Fund Intern participation; then recruits, selects and trains interns to assist in implementing program activities.

2. Identifies potential sources of interns and develops proactive strategies to recruit interns with the skills needed by Club programs and activities.

3. Conducts evaluation of intern activities and participation, refining selection and training activities to ensure a high level of satisfaction by interns and staff. Also, monitor interns tracking of the programs outcomes.

4. Implements regular orientation of interns/mentors. Provides training to BGC staff on effective intern/mentor management.

5. Recruits and manages intern outreach staff, providing performance standards, feedback, appraisal and professional development opportunities.

6. Acts as liaison with neighborhood, local schools, and community groups to enhance Club and community relations.

7. Fosters relationships with interns/mentors and youth to ensure positive and productive experiences that benefit the at-risk youth served.

8. Builds positive rapport with Club parents to increase the impact of their mentoring relationship and Club experience.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Strong oral and written communication skills, with good public presentation skills.

• Ability to work with youth and adults of diverse educational and cultural backgrounds

• Ability to identify and address needs of volunteers, funders and communities

• Ability to work as a team member with club staff, volunteers and representatives of other community agencies

• Ability to evaluate and document program participation and effectiveness

• Ability to actively recruit volunteers for programs

• Ability to work independently and in an organized manner


Minimum Requirements

• BA/BS degree in human services, education, communications, English, or related field required (or equivalent experience)

• Work experience in a service organization, with emphasis on volunteer programs and activities.

• Demonstrated understanding of youth development field and youth programs

• Must have completed the application process at https://egrants.cns.gov/espan/main/login.jsp and be an approved AmeriCorps VISTA volunteer

• Must pass National Criminal Background Check

• Must pass pre-employment drug test

Physical Requirements/ Work Environment

The successful candidate must be able to use a variety of office equipment including computer, telephone, and / or other equipment. S/he may be required to lift supplies, materials, and collateral materials up to 35 pounds.
