Chemical Dependency Specialist (Seattle (North))
CHEMICAL DEPENDENCY SPECIALIST

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Provides chemical dependency training, technical and consultation services for host site staff, provides chemical dependency services (i.e., education, prevention, COA, recovery groups, assessment and treatment planning) to children/adolescents and their families.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
  1. Provides individual and group counseling and crisis management and referral specific to chemical dependency issues.
  2. In conjunction with host site staff, provides family counseling, crisis intervention, referral and support related to chemical dependency issues.
  3. Conducts individual client assessments using Ryther and host site instruments, including the Substance Abuse Subtle Screen Inventory (SASSI), GAIN, GAIN SS and individual interview. Makes appropriate referrals as deemed necessary.
  4. Provides on-going staff training and consultation for all host site staff related to substance abuse and chemical dependency.
  5. Provides support, planning and assistance for clients entering from treatment programs.
  6. Coordinates and monitors the completion of treatment plans and assignments.
  7. Arranges client attendance at self-help, treatment groups, and 12 step group meetings when appropriate.
  8. Provides liaison information/referral and collaboration with community chemical dependency treatment agencies.
  9. Participates in host site staffing, meetings and training as deemed appropriate.
  10. Spends an average of 2 - 4 hours per week at Ryther for supervision, training and consultation.
  11. Cooperates with research, data collection and outcome studies as deemed necessary by DBHR and KC.
  12. Provides consultation and program/technical assistance to host site staff in areas related to substance abuse and chemical dependency.
  13. Collaborates with host site staff regarding treatment, transition and aftercare planning for identified youth.
  14. Able to develop and implement an independent work schedule and perform assigned tasks and duties with minimal direct oversight.
  15. Adjusts work hours as necessary to provide chemical dependency treatment services to clients.
  16. Complete required quarterly and annual reports as required by contract.
  17. Performs all other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  1. MA or Master's degree in social service field, social science, social work, psychology or related field or  Bachelor Degree in social or service field plus one year experience working in an alcoholism and/or drug abuse counseling setting or4 years prior experience as a CDPT or CDP.
  2. Posses a Department of Health Chemical Professional Certification or demonstrate significant progress towards this certification. MUST MAINTAIN CHEMICAL DEPENDENCY PROFESSIONAL STATUS THROUGH CONTINUING EDUCATION DURING EMPLOYMENT.
  3. Experience working with adolescents is highly desirable.

  6. Be 21 years of age or older.
  7. Knowledge and understanding of family-centered practice principles.
  8. Valid Washington state driver's license and liability insurance.
  9. Ability to complete emergent assignments within the time frame identified by the supervisor.
  10. Ability to exercise discretion and maintain customer and employee confidentiality.
  11. Ability to work within the host site.
  12. Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  13. Ability to perform a range of physical motions including but not limited to: standing, walking, sitting for long periods of time
  14. Ability to use the senses of sight, hearing to effectively perform responsibilities.
  15. Ability to use office equipment that includes copier machine, telephone, FAX, and personal computer.
  16. Knowledge of community social services resources is highly desirable.
