Vittana is a nonprofit organization focused on graduating a generation beyond poverty. We are expanding our stellar web development team with another “hard-headed idealist” who wants to take our crowdsourcing website to the next level and change the world by opening opportunity to the next generation.

JOB RESPONSIBILTIES:

We're making a tangible difference in the developing countries where we work and the software you'll write will be integral to our continued success. You'll work collaboratively in a team of with technical and non-technical coworkers to build, learn, and iterate our way to a great customer experience. You'll work harder than you ever have and you'll have more fun than you ever expected. You'll wear many hats while building new features for our public-facing website, improving the UI/UX of our website and internal tools, and helping to optimize our systems as we grow to scale.

REQUIRED:

• Demonstrated passion for the modern web
• Fluency in Ruby and Rails
• Front-end, back-end, or full-stack expertise
• Self-motivation and ability to thrive in an agile/iterative development environment
• Able to effectively work in a cross discipline team environment
• Interest in our cause and working for social good

DESIRED

• Git experience and GitHub account
• Familiarity with Unix-based systems
• HAML, SASS, jQuery, and CoffeeScript chops
• B.S. or B.A. in Computer Science, HCI or related discipline; however, we're more impressed by passion than degrees, GPAs, or years of experience
• Work experience at a previous start-up or personal side projects

On www.vittana.org, anyone can make $25 microloan to help a young man or women in developing countries complete his or her education and achieve a better life. Vittana students study and train to become employed as accountants, nurses, teachers, welders and many more professions. Since pioneering the concept of education microloans, the Vittana community has supported more than 3,000 students in 12 countries.
