Postion: RecTech Summer Internship Instructor: Garfield
Location: Garfield Community Center
Status: Temporary (mid-June to early September)
Rate: DOE, starting at $22/hr
Description
RecTech at Garfield Community Center is looking for a video production instructor for our teen summer internship. In this eight-week internship, youth participants will create video and digital media projects reflecting what they learn throughout the internship. In addition to the technical aspect, the program theme this summer will focused on African American history, specifically the Tuskegee Airmen. Staff will work closely with contacts at the Northwest African American Museum (NAAM), investigate local connections to the Tuskegee Airmen, and film interviews with surviving Airmen in conjunction with NAAM.
Basic Duties:
• Plan a variety of academic and technical skill-building activities, in collaboration with program staff, helping youth learn to plan, create, and edit a video project from start to finish
• Work with program staff to design and implement internship curriculum and itinerary
• Engage youth in a wide range of project-based learning activities
• Assist program coordinator in developing and conducting evaluation and reporting for internship outcomes
• Supervise teens on site and on field trips.
Desired Qualifications:
• Well versed in videography and video editing in Final Cut Pro
• Basic knowledge of PC and Apple operating systems
• Experience and desire to work with a diverse group of high school aged youth
• Experience and desire to teach others to use technology (computers, recording & production software, multimedia equipment) and to develop and implement sound curriculum and classroom activities.
• Interest in food justice and health awareness, especially in communities of color.
• Willing and able to serve as a positive role model and influence for youth participants
• Knowledge of audio production with Garage Band or MixCraft is a plus
• Familiarity with the Central District is a plus
