Postion: RecTech Summer Internship Instructor: South Park
Location: South Park Community Center
Status: Temporary (mid-June to early September)
Rate: DOE, starting at $22/hr
Description
The RecTech Summer Internship Instructor works with teens to provide learning opportunities in the South Park Computer Lab. The instructor will work in collaboration with the RecTech Lead to develop and deliver an eight week summer course on concepts of web design and website production, writing for the web and a community audience, and ways to promote and build community projects using the web. The instructor will also assist in teaching technical web development skills such as HTML, CSS, and some graphic design.
Basic Duties:
• Plan a variety of academic and technical skill-building activities in collaboration with program staff, helping youth learn to plan and create original web design projects
• Work with program staff to design and implement internship curriculum and itinerary
• Engage youth in a wide range of project-based learning activities
• Assist program coordinator in developing and conducting evaluation and reporting for internship outcomes
• Supervise teens on-site and on field trips.
Desired Qualifications:
• Experience with and knowledge of web design, development and production, HTML and CSS.
• Experience with or knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite software for basic graphic design and photo editing, incorporating blogging tools to web design such as WordPress, Tumblr, Blogger, etc
• Basic knowledge of PC and Apple operating systems
• Experience and desire to work with a diverse group of high school aged youth and community building
• Experience and desire to teach others to use technology (computers, recording & production software, multimedia equipment) and to develop and implement web design curriculum and classroom activities.
• Willing and able to serve as a positive role model and influence for youth participants
• Familiarity with the South Park community and its surrounding communities is a plus
