Description

Friends of Youth is a not for profit organization committed to the support of youth and young adults in our community. With 60 years of experience, 20 program sites, and national accreditation, we provide safe places and emotional support for youth and families in challenging circumstances. Our services include:

-Residential Services, providing therapeutic residential services, including foster care, to youth under 18;
-Homeless Support Services, providing outreach, overnight shelter, case management, employment and housing for homeless youth and young adults in East King County
-Youth and Family Services, providing counseling, substance abuse treatment, prevention and parenting programs in East King County.

Friends of Youth is currently seeking a Volunteer Coordinator . The position is located in our Redmond office.

The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for recruiting, training, and coordinating the agency's volunteers and for assisting in the planning and coordination of special events. The Coordinator is also responsible for assisting in other development department activities as necessary.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Volunteer Program Coordination
Design and implement volunteer program.
Identify need for volunteer support--collaborate with staff.
Develop volunteer resources including recruitment and retention of volunteers.
Interview potential volunteers for appropriate positions.
Screen volunteers for criminal history.
Maintain volunteer program through training, orientation, record keeping, data base management, evaluation, and recognition.
Comply with agency goals for numbers and quality of recruited volunteers, as well as accreditation requirements.
Identify and support program to effectively train and utilize high skills volunteers.

In-Kind and Pro-Bono Gifts
Coordinate procurement of identified needs.
Coordinate the delivery of in-kind donations.
Maintain records of in-kind donations.
Assist with acknowledgment, thank you notes and gifts, of in-kind donors.
Maintain and screen storage area of in-kind gifts

Events Coordination
Work with Development Team to plan and coordinate special events.
Recruit, train, supervise and organize volunteers for special events
Coordinate agency representation at resource fairs and community fairs.
Organize volunteers and coordinate projects and support for United Way Day of Caring (both King and Snohomish counties).
Support our internal United Way Employee Giving Campaign
Coordinate annual Giving Tree Program, National Volunteer Week, Thanksgiving Baskets, Teen Volunteer Program development.
Create and execute the Annual Volunteer Recognition Event.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience
Bachelor's Degree.
Experience working with and supervising volunteers.
Community resource development experience.
Valid Washington State driver's license, car insurance, and reliable vehicle.
Employees and volunteers who operate their own or Friends of Youth vehicles on Friends of Youth business must have a safe driving record as defined by Friends of Youth. Employees and volunteers who operate their own vehicle(s) on Friends of Youth business must carry auto liability insurance that complies with the requirements of Friends of Youth.
Education or experience in cultural competency.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Exemplary people skills.
Strong organizational skills.
Ability to handle several tasks simultaneously.
Ability to work as part of a team.
Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekend hours.
Basic computer competence in Microsoft Publisher, Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel.
Must demonstrate sensitivity and responsiveness to cultural differences and a commitment to the value of cultural competency.
