Title: Director of Education
Purpose of Position: Provide oversight and vision from a Christ-centered perspective for all education programs and components
Reports to: Executive Director
Relates Closely with: All other program Directors
Responsible for: All teachers, administrative coordinator/registrar, anyone teaching a class
Description: Eastside Academy (www.eastsideacademy.org) is a non-profit, Christian alternative high school (grades 9 -- 12) for highly at-risk youth. Eastside Academy is housed on the campus of First Presbyterian Church of Bellevue and currently serves 35-40 high school students with a teaching staff of four.
Continuing Responsibilities:
• Develop and implement vision for education programs at Eastside Academy
• Hire, supervise and evaluate teachers
• Substitute in classrooms, and when necessary serve as primary teacher
• Handle all special event scheduling, student scheduling and monitoring of graduation requirements
• Attend details required legally and ethically for maintaining an education program (i.e. manuals, school cleanliness, student records, curriculum, supplies, etc.)•
• Process all new student admissions
• Maintain and enforce school discipline and promote a positive school environment
• Provide regular opportunities for students to celebrate success in instructional programs and extracurricular activities including graduation ceremony
• Organize and supervise procedures for identifying and addressing special needs of students including health related concern, and physical, emotional, and learning disabilities, coordinating the resources of the school and community to assist the student and family
• Coordinate annual Job Shadow Day
Primary strengths/gifts/talents required:
• Mature Christian
• Heart for at-risk youth
• Master's Degree 5+ years teaching experience
• Educational supervisory experience
• Strong communications skills (written and oral)
• Spend daily quality time in prayer and Bible study
• Be able to work and live in harmony with the core values and affirmations of Eastside Academy
Approximate Time Required by Position: 40-50 hours per week
Accompanying Benefits: medical and dental insurance, vacation: regular school holidays as long as critical matters are taken care of (some work will be required over the longer breaks (Christmas/Easter breaks). An additional 3 weeks of vacation is granted during the summer.
