YouthCare serves homeless and street-involved youth in Seattle, Washington and operates seven housing programs in addition to the Orion Center. Position Title: YouthBuild Construction Worksite Supervisor Program:YouthBuild Job Code: 12 - 509

WORK SCHEDULE: This position is part-time, 20 hour per week position and non-exempt. The schedule is Mon -- Thurs 1pm -- 5pm and 4 hours on Friday between 8am -- 5pm. This position will occasionally require flexibility in scheduling for special events.

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the YouthBuild Program Manager, the YouthBuild Construction Worksite Supervisor will be responsible for providing supervision and direction to YouthBuild participants at various construction training sites. This position supports both the delivery and documentation of the program including: leadership development, student supervision, management activities, grant compliance and reporting for this federally funded project. YouthBuild educates and trains participants with multiple barriers, ages 18-24. YouthBuild key elements include opportunities for participants to earn their GED and gain basic construction credentials with the ultimate goal of placing program participants in post-secondary education and/or facilitating participants' entrance into the livable wage jobs in the fields of construction with an emphasis on green building.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Facilitates intensive site training component including 6 month PACT construction training, landscaping, and environmental restoration.

• Trains all participants in work site safety and job-readiness skills.

• Helps set standards for appropriate behavior on the worksite and mediates conflict among participants.

• Mentors, supervises, and teaches youth with little or no work history who have many barriers to employment.

• Completes student assessments, case notes when needed, and documentation as it relates to the job-readiness component of the program.

• Supports youth in their development of career goals and job opportunities in conjunction with other YouthBuild and Civic Justice Corps staff.

• Transports youth to worksites in the community.

• Collaborates with other YouthCare staff in personnel and program management.

• May be required to administer Urinary Analysis (Drug Screens).

• Supervises field trips to career-related industry organizations and agencies.

• Participates in Orion Center core activities, including assisting with meals and drop-in services.

• Earns certification in the Home Builders Institute Pre-Apprentice Construction Training (PACT).

QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIREMENTS:

• Three to five years of experience in the construction field, particularly residential construction.

• Knowledge of affordable housing and construction techniques used by program partners.

• Demonstrated understanding of youth development and a strengths-based approach to coaching/teaching.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

• Ability to facilitate a credentialed construction curriculum.

• Acceptance of a variety of lifestyles, behaviors, and cultural and spiritual practices.

• Ability to maintain professional behavior by keeping appropriate boundaries with youth and staff members of the Orion Center.

• Ability to work as a member of a team.

• Ability to operate a 15-passenger van.

• Ability to pass a DSHS Criminal Background Check.

PREFERENCES:

• BA in industrial arts, construction management, education, or a related field

• Three+ years of experience in youth development, job-readiness training, or education work.

• Previous experience working with at-risk or homeless youth or young adults.

Position Title: CJC Worksite Supervisor Program: Civic Justice Corps Job Code: 12-540

WORK SCHEDULE: This position is part-time, 20 hour per week non-exempt. The regular schedule includes Thursdays -- Fridays 8:30am -- 3:30pm, plus 12:30pm -- 3:30 pm two additional week days. This position will occasionally require flexibility in scheduling for special events.


POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the CJC program manager, the Worksite Supervisor will be responsible for providing instruction, mentoring, supervision and safety monitoring to the participants of the federally funded CJC program.

This position will work at multiple sites including various Habitat for Humanity and Seattle Parks and Recreation sites.

In addition to training and supervising young adults this position supports all educational, programmatic, and leadership activities and record keeping for grant compliance and reporting.

CJC educates and trains participants with multiple barriers including those involved in the criminal justice system, ages 18-22. Key CJC program elements include opportunities for participants to earn their GED, gain basic construction credentials, and learn key aspects of environmental stewardship with the ultimate goal of placing program participants in post-secondary education and/or facilitating participants' entrance into the livable wage jobs in the fields of construction with an emphasis on environmental sustainability, and "green" trades.

• Ability to perform moderate physical work, exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and 10 to 20 pounds frequently.

• CPR / First Aid Certification

• HIV / AIDS Training (minimum 4 hours)

• When driving YouthCare vehicles, you must possess a valid WA State Driver's License and have taken Van Driver Certification Training or an approved Defensive Driving Course.
