Camp Korey is seeking highly motivated, energetic Registered Nurses to provide direct nursing care to campers living with life-altering medical conditions. Camp Korey, located in Carnation, WA (30 miles east of Seattle), provides a safe and meaningful summer camp experience for children with serious medical conditions, including kids who have undergone solid organ transplant, as well as those living with various skin conditions, mitochondrial disease, skeletal dysplasia, metabolic bone conditions, craniofacial differences, and other illnesses. Staff nurses collaborate with Attending Physicians, volunteer nurses, cabin counselors, and the Leadership Team to ensure the campers are provided with the highest quality of care. RNs are compensated with competitive wages including room and board.Requirements

  • State of Washington Registered Nurse License
  • Valid CPR Certification
  • PALS Certification (preferred)
  • Pediatric or Heme/Onc Nursing Experience (preferred)
  • Strong communication skills
  • Self-motivated and directed
  • Staff Nurses are required to live on camp grounds from mid-June through mid-August
  • Staff Nurses work under the supervision of the Director of Nursing or designee, the Medical Director, and the Camp Director
Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with staff and volunteer MDs and RNs to provide nursing care and monitor the health status of campers.
  • Prepare and administer medications as scheduled and as necessary to campers and staff in accord with standing orders and/or physician orders.
  • Provide routine procedures as scheduled and as necessary for each camper, including the care of internal and external central lines, IV infusion, blood draws and IV insertions, and G-Tube and other continuous/bolus feeds.
  • Administer and monitor various infusions, including IV fluids, Gamma Globulin, antibiotics, and TPN/lipids.
  • Safe and appropriate administration and disposal of IV chemotherapy agents (if chemotherapy certification is documented).
  • Triage campers upon arrival to the Infirmary and provide care as needed.
  • Deliver first aid to campers and staff as detailed in the standing orders.
  • Accompany EMT and campers during transport to medical facility in camp vehicle or ambulance as necessary.
  • Work as first contact and provider for campers and staff overnight “on-call” as assigned. (Attending physician will provide “back-up” services as needed).
  • Work in partnership with the Camp leadership team members to provide support and education to the camp staff and volunteers.
  • Serve as an educational resource for staff in regard to the illnesses and medical needs of their specific campers as well as the growth, development, and hygiene of children.
  • Communicate with parents regarding the health and care of their child.
  • Provide supervision and guidance to infirmary volunteers as assigned.
  • Document, transcribe and keep records as outlined
  • Adhere to standard and universal precautions.
  • Maintain camp standards of confidentiality with regard to camper and staff medical records.
