Navos is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to helping individuals and families attain satisfying lives and give back to their communities despite having to cope with challenges of serious emotional and mental illnesses. Our organization has a history of developing pragmatic answers to the needs of clients who are the most challenging to serve. We provide the full continuity of services to an ethnic, age and gender diverse population; inpatient and outpatient services, very young to very old.

Position Summary: The Community Coordinator is responsible for building and sustaining a community-based coalition in White Center/Burien, WA, and general oversight for the coalition's activities, including planning, delivering, evaluating and reporting on activities. The Community Coordinator will identify and implement strategies that lead to sustainable and lasting community involvement.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Must have public relations, community mobilization and/or marketing skills and excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills. Must be highly proficient with Microsoft Office and general computer skills; willingness to do own administrative work; a self-starter, extremely organized with proven ability to work both independently and as a member of a team; and able to creatively solve problems, work under pressure and meet deadlines. Must be committed to working with children, youth, and adults from diverse populations on the prevention of drug/alcohol/tobacco abuse and violence. Must be able to demonstration intimate knowledge of the communities of White Center and Burien, WA.

Education, Experience, and Certification: Bachelor's degree in Education, Health Education, Communications, Social Sciences, or closely related field; requires a minimum of two years of professional or volunteer experience organizing people to create community change,. Experience in public health, health education, administration, policy/planning or community mobilization preferred. Working knowledge of substance abuse prevention; current certification or interest in obtaining Certified Prevention Professional, Certified Health Education Specialist or Chemical Dependency Professional certification. At least 2 years of experience with health education programs in community setting. Successful experience in program or project planning, implementation and evaluation. Thorough understanding of and experience with applying environmental prevention strategies and the Strategic Prevention Framework concepts preferred. Reliable transportation, valid Washington state driver's license, and proof of vehicle insurance. Willing to work occasional evening and/or weekend hours.

Physical Abilities: May involve lifting, pushing, pulling, twisting, and stooping requiring upper and lower body strength. Lifting up to 50 lbs. may be required without assistance.

Compensation: DOE
