Vietnamese Immigrant and Refugee Job Readiness Program
Full-Time Program Coordinator
Background: The Vietnamese Friendship Association (VFA) is a nonprofit located in Southeast Seattle. Our mission is to empower the Vietnamese community to succeed while bridging cultures. We serve youth and families, Vietnamese and non-Vietnamese, through academic programs, leadership programs, and community engagement programs. For more information, please visit vfaseattle.org.
Opportunity: We are currently seeking a full-time Program Coordinator to manage an integrated job readiness program and provide case management to Vietnamese immigrant and refugee youth and their parents.
Funded by the City of Seattle Human Services Department, the Job Readiness Training for Vietnamese English Language Learner (ELL) Youth and Families is part of a larger service system to help meet the basic needs of our community's most vulnerable residents. The program will utilize a family-based approach to service delivery by integrating support services for parents and coordinating with school-based services to help immigrant and refugee youth overcome barriers to academic success, livable wage jobs, and self-sufficiency. The program will serve 20 Vietnamese youth.
Program components include:
• Paid job readiness training and summer employment through a group project
• Spring work training and internships
• Bilingual/bicultural case management
• Parent education classes, school engagement support, and referral services
• Joint youth and parent self-sufficiency/post-secondary education classes
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
A. Outreach
• Recruit 20 youth and their parents for enrollment
• Organize and host informational sessions
• Develop strategies to maintain program attendance
B. Case Management
• Develop Individualized Service Plans for each youth to assess and track progress
• Provide school engagement support to youth to ensure academic success
• Support youth to identify career related goals/interests and post-secondary plans
• Assist parents with monitoring their child's academic and educational progress
• Provide referral services for youth and families as necessary
• Maintain up to date case files for each youth and parent
C. Coordination
• Partner with the City of Seattle Human Services Department (HSD) to develop and standardize program training, curriculum, and evaluation
• Organize job readiness training, educational workshops, and self-sufficiency classes for youth and their parents
• Work with other non-profits, businesses, and organizations to establish internship sites for youth
D. Program Management
• Hire, supervise, and support program assistant, youth and parent class instructors, and volunteers
• Manage contract with HSD, which includes writing and submitting monthly reports and invoices
E. Evaluation
• Maintain active communication with internship site supervisors to determine youth progress
• Perform routine site visits
• Conduct evaluations with youth at the end of summer and spring internships
F. Administrative
• Attend staff meetings, technical assistance and training workshops with HSD, and other program-related meetings
• Manage program budget and finances
• Assist with other programs, events, and projects as needed
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• BA/BS or any combination of education and/or experience that has provided the foundation, skills, and abilities necessary to satisfactorily perform job duties
• Experience in program management, budgeting, and evaluation
• Proficiency in spoken Vietnamese
• Demonstrated success using oral and written communication skills
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage with people of all ages and cultures in a respective manner
• Ability to multitask while still accomplishing outcomes and objectives
• Proficiency using Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel
REPORTS TO: Director of Youth and Community Engagement
HOURS, TERM, STATUS, and COMPENSATION: This is a one-year, full-time position with benefits. Salary ranges from $32,000 to $36,000, DOE. The term will be from May 2012 to May 2013 with the possibility of extension depending on funding and outcomes.
