Teaching Position Available Capitol Hill Cooperative Preschool--Tots Class (ages 1-2 years)
Experienced Early Childhood Educator needed for a permanent, part-time position teaching young children in a Parent Cooperative Preschool.
Background
Capitol Hill Cooperative Preschool, in existence for 60 years, is affiliated with Seattle Central Community College as a parent-directed lab school. Parents, together with the teachers, participate in the development of school philosophy, policies and curricula.
We have a strong commitment to maintaining an antibias environment which encourages comfort with all races, cultures, attitudes and lifestyles. Parents work at school as assistant teachers in support of this goal; actively manage member recruitment, enrollment and scholarship funding.
Job Description
The Capitol Hill Cooperative Preschool has an opening for a teacher in its Tots Program for the 2012-2013 school year. The class will have up to 18 children ages 1-2 years. Caregivers attend with the students, and the class meets twice a week from 4:00 to 5:30pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The teacher is expected to attend a monthly parents' meeting and a monthly board meeting, both of which take place in the evening. Salary and compensation includes classroom preparation, classroom time and evening commitments. The school year runs from the second week in September to mid-June.
The goal of the class is to provide children with ample and varied opportunities for exploration and socialization. The first half of each class is devoted to free play with developmentally appropriate activities selected by the teacher. Free play choices should encourage the development of fine and gross motor skills and expose children to new tactile and sensory-motor experiences, through art, pretend play, physical activity and object manipulation.
The second half of each class includes a transitional circle time with songs, movement, and nursery rhymes, followed by a shared snack prepared by parents. Typically the teacher reads a story to the children during the snack, and the class concludes with a brief closing circle incorporating dance, movement and a good-bye song.
