POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Cook is responsible for providing preparation and supervision of mealtimes as stipulated by the Director and USDA regulations.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
- Plan monthly menu and prepare nutritious meals and snacks according to USDA and the Director’s requirements.
- Maintain child specific special dietary requirements.
- Appropriately prepare and deliver mealtime and snacks to each classroom per Center procedures.
- Maintain clean, sanitary, and safe work areas (utilize gloves/hair cover/apron, disinfect surfaces, etc.).
- Rotate stock. Conduct inventory of food items/supplies and determine purchase needs in timely manner.
- Clean and disinfect stove/oven, microwave, and other appliances.
- Complete tasks independently; promote a positive and pleasant work environment; maintain positive communication with Director and co-workers in a timely manner.
- Maintain and provide monthly report for daily meal count per USDA requirements.
- Work with teaching staff and Center Director to integrate nutrition and food source information into classroom curriculum.
- As requested by Center Director, develop food preparation and nutrition information for parents and caregivers.
- Understand and practice requirements for hand washing and other hygiene practices as mandated by licensing standards.
- Provide back-up coverage in classrooms, if needed.
- Attend monthly staff meetings.
- Other duties as may be reasonably assigned.

- Able to hear telephone rings, phone and face-to-face conversation, and emergency alarms.
- Able to speak clearly in person and on the telephone.
- Able to hand write legibly.
- Able to read normal size print and handwritten notes.
- Mobility/dexterity of hands/arms to use kitchen implements and equipment for food preparation. .
- Able to walk, kneel, climb, stand, crouch, stoop, reach, push, pull and other related activities associated with providing care for active young children.
- Able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Regularly able to perform duties as assigned.
- Able to make independent decisions and apply sound judgment in performing job duties.
- High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- Must be eighteen years of age or older.
- Meet State training requirements.
- Meal preparation and menu planning skills.
- Ability to relate well to both children and adults.
- Have the ability to work with people of diverse social, economic, and cultural backgrounds.
- Possess or will obtain a valid Food Handlers Permit and CPR/First Aid Certification.
1. Food preparation experience for groups or restaurant.
2. Experience working with children.
