Job Title: Center Supervisor
Report To: Director of Child Development
Salary
Range: Grade 6 ($17.00 to $18.66 to per hour, to start, plus
benefits)
General
Description of Duties
The
center supervisor is responsible for the overall facilitation of the delivery
of classroom and educational services at each center. A center supervisor
supervises teachers and teacher assistants and assists the staff in providing a
quality preschool experience. The center supervisor will accomplish this by:
Specific Job Requirements for this Position
1. BA or advanced degree in Early
Childhood Education or BA/advanced degree in a related field with a minimum of 45
credits in early childhood education.)
2. Three years experience teaching
pre-school children.
3. Previous supervisory experience
4. Those skills and abilities
which meet accepted levels of management and supervision; including
professionalism, monitoring, supervision, organizations, analysis, and
presentation.
5. Excellent organization and time
management skills
6. Completion of 20 hours STARS
training preferred or wiliness to acquire 20 hours STARS training or wavier
with in first six month of employment
7. Willingness to complete 10
hours of STARS training annually
8. Valid Washington
State Drivers License and access to
reliable, insured, personal transportation with proof of current automobile
insurance.
9. Ability to work flexible
schedule, including some evenings and weekends and any/all hours needed to
complete job description requirements.

12. Knowledge of basic office
equipment; copy, fax, voice mail etc.
13. Food Handlers Permit
14. Bi-lingual in a language spoken
by a DLEC parents – Spanish or Somali preferred.
Job Duties:
Monitoring & Supervision
1. Be knowledgeable about personnel
policies, program procedures, and standards for each job role supervised.
2. Monitor time, attendance and
leave request for completeness and accuracy of supervised employees. Confer
with staff as needed, regarding regular and punctual attendance.
3. Establish and maintain work
schedules that meet program standards, licensing, and labor laws.
4. Recognize and share teacher’s
accomplishments and foster positive staff moral. Provide appropriate feedback and support to enhance job
performance.
5. Monitor staff performance.
6. Communicate emerging
educational issues to the Director of Child Development on an ongoing basis,
and submit a monthly education monitoring report summarizing the status of site
issues.
7. Submit all reports in a timely
manner. Follow through on insufficient progress on performance standard
compliance.
8. Assist the Director of Child
Development with Educational Policy decisions.
9. Complete evaluations for new
employees within 90 calendar days of employment. A second evaluation is completed by the end
of the first year.
10. Meet with staff mid-year to
review Professional Development plan and to discuss and document strengths and
possible performance concerns or improvements needed
11. Complete end of the year
evaluations for staff before last day of program
12. Ride bus one time during the
year to evaluate the performance of the bus monitor.
Assure Health and Safety of Site:
1. Ensure that all
Head Start, licensing and OSPI standards are being met at the site.
2. In collaboration
with the Director of Child Development complete the required local inspections,
monitor the physical space to prevent and correct hazards.
3. Coordinate with DLEC
administration to arrange for needed facility repairs and routine maintenance,
document the activities.
4. Support day-to-day
kitchen operations, providing food contractor with feedback and requesting sack
lunches for field trips. Ensure all food and kitchen supply purchasing
documentation is submitted in a timely manor.
5. Promote positive
morale within the site and relationships with other sites.
6. Follow procedures
for emergencies and natural disasters.
Ensure that disaster and emergency plans are posted. Review plans with staff regularly and make
sure new staff are aware of emergency procedures.
7. Make sure that the
emergency preparedness materials/earthquake supplies, first aide and disaster
kits are purchased, clearly labeled and assure all staff is aware of their
availability. During the course of the
year, inform new staff about the location and availability of emergency
supplies.
8. Assure classroom
staff practice, all necessary emergency drills with enrolled children.
Education Operations:
1. As the site
educational leader assure quality educational services by monthly observing
classrooms, providing feedback, providing early childhood education resources
information and guidance to staff.
Document activities.
2. Provide teachers
with educational resources; helping teacher’s problem solve and develop
strategies that help children achieves individualized goals.
3. Provide ongoing
support for improving the educational programming ensuring that all
implementation practices are developmentally appropriate, best practices and
based on the most resent research.
4. Support teachers in
the collection and input of child outcomes data three times a year. Work with Director of Child Development to
analyze reports and plan for program improvement based on outcomes data.
5. Monitor classrooms
for appropriate family style meal service practices, serving portions, meals being
served in a timely manner, teachers taking point of service meal counts, and
accuracy of meal count documentation.
6. Communicate effectively by
checking in with teachers on a daily basis to troubleshoot and evaluate needs,
facilitate center education staff meetings, provide written materials, sharing
openly and honestly with appropriate staff, providing a communication link
between site and support staff, observing confidentiality in all dealings
related to program staff and families.
7. Assist in implementing
classroom field trips.
8. Work with the Director of Child
Development in developing partnerships with local community
organizations/agencies who can further the educational opportunities of the
children enrolled at DLEC.
9. Offer and solicit new ideas and
activities with staff through newsletters, memos and staff meetings.
10. Find substitutes for classrooms
to maintain required ratios at all times. Substitute in the classroom if other
subs cannot be found.
11. Support teachers in the
implementation of developmental screenings, home visits and conferences
12. Support with all screenings.
13. Be a resource to teachers in
regards to ill children, classroom accommodation plans, and minor emergencies
and outbreaks
14. Support funding source
initiatives, such as early literacy, family literacy, language development,
ongoing assessments, national testing, etc.
15. Participate in program planning
by reviewing operations and offering suggestions for improvements, engaging in
discussions, planning and implementing new directions.
16. Contribute to team effort by
clarifying roles and expectations with co-workers, cooperating with co-workers to maintain program quality.
17. Supervise
and approve the use of site classroom budgets.
All items must be consistent with program philosophy and policies.
18. Identify needed materials, equipment
and supplies to enable staff to complete their job responsibilities.
19. Submit all receipts
and purchasing documentation to the Director of Child Development for
processing.
Special Needs/Mental Health Services
1. Supervise and monitor to ensure IEP goals are
included in child’s IP and appropriate activities are developing
to support each child in accomplishing the goals.
2. Participate in monthly special services
meeting, reporting information on each child who has an IEP, mental health
concern, staff or parent concern or children who are in the referral process.
3. Work in collaboration with Director of Child
Development/Disabilities to ensure all necessary paperwork is completed to
guarantee effective and timely referrals
4. Coordinate classroom observations and staff
meetings with mental health professionals. Participate in meetings to develop
IEPs and classroom integration plans
Training & Staff Development:
1. Develop professional development
plans for site staff. and monitor progress.
2. Assist staff in the
identification of resources to support professional development needs,
including information, training, activities, community resources, etc.
3. Regularly observe in
classrooms, review children’s files and team with teachers to assess and
support curriculum implementation. Assist in supervising and training classroom
substitutes and volunteers
4. Review and monitor weekly
lesson plans in advance of implementation
and provide feedback
5. Model effective behavior by
being professional; giving positive feed back, being responsive and available
to staff, being respectful of differences in teaching styles and by
capitalizing on the strengths of individual staff members.
6. Help teachers to problem solve
and develop strategies that help children achieve individualized goals.
7. Participate with the Director
of Child Development in the design and implementation of all pre-service and
in-service education trainings
Encourage and Support Parent Involvement:
1. Provide leadership and guidance
for education staff in the development and implementation of parent classroom
meetings and “End of the Year Celebrations”.
2. Ensure that the center
environment is welcoming to families.
3. Work with Director of Child
Development and Director of Family and Community Partnerships to ensure that
the monthly parent events have appropriate child development management staff
present to welcome families and represent the content expertise of child development.
4. Be an active member and attend
all child development curriculum committee meetings.
Planning and Operation/Other Duties:
1. Responsible
for ensuring compliance with Head Start performance standards, Denise
Louie Education Center policies
and procedures and any and all other applicable federal, state, local and
licensing rules and regulations.
2. Work as part
of DLEC management team, which includes demonstrated use of generally accepted
levels of management and supervision; including professionalism, monitoring,
organization, analysis, and presentation.
3. Promote the
interests and concerns and advocate for child development staff.
4. Contribute to
short and long term planning by participating in DLEC self-assessment, the
development and implementation of service delivery goals, and other group
activities.
5. Assist in the
closing of files by ensuring that all child development information is complete
and organized according to the file checklist.
6. Act as a
reporting agent for suspected cases of child abuse and neglect. Follow
established program child abuse and neglect procedures to assure compliance and
support as needed
7. Collect and
record volunteer hours and donations for “in-kind” and DLEC acknowledgement and
transmit information to appropriate staff.
8. Attend all meetings
as required, both individual and group. Identify and attend meetings,
conferences, and trainings which relate to job description and promote
professional development.
9. Other duties
as assigned.
