REPORTS TO: Chief Executive Officer


QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree required in communications, marketing, public relations, nonprofit management, or related field. Three to five years successful experience in professional fund raising and community relations. Demonstrated grant writing, event planning, and gift solicitation skills. Familiarity with accepted fundraising practices and IRS requirements. Superior communication and organizational skills. A sensitivity and responsiveness to the cultural differences in the organization's employment and service population. The ability to pass an extensive background check and maintain a record with no history of conviction or perpetration of child abuse or physical harm to another person; The ability to pass and maintain a driving records check; and, a current drivers license and personal auto insurance levels at or above a $100,000 combined single limit liability (must be provided once offer of employment is accepted). JOB DESCRIPTION: Oversee all aspects of a full-service, non-profit fund development program. Essential elements of the job include developing and implementing a comprehensive annual marketing, communications, and fundraising plan; training board members to assist and support development activities; planning and implementing fund raising events; implementing the planned giving program to secure gifts for agency's endowment fund; seeking strategic partnerships within the local business, corporate, and non-profit sector, and supervising development staff, including development associate (1.0 FTE) and grant writer (0.5 FTE). This is an exempt position.


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:


1. Plan and implement a strategic, annual fund development plan which targets multiple populations of existing and prospective supporters (individuals, businesses, corporations, private foundations, service organizations, faith communities, etc.) and includes direct mail appeals, fundraising events, major gifts research and solicitation, and a planned giving program.

2. Lead and oversee agency's community outreach activities to (a) ensure high visibility, (b) cultivate awareness of our role in the community, (c) expand the donor base for gift solicitation and other fund raising activities, and (d) solidify ongoing, community-wide support for the agency.

3. Create a visible, integral image for CYS by (a) maintaining contact with local media, (b) representing the agency at community events, and (c) building and strengthening strategic partnerships with local businesses and professional and service organizations,.

4. Oversee agency's grant writing program, working closely with grant writer to research and identify funding sources and write funding requests to government entities, private foundations, small businesses, corporations, community organizations, individuals, and other prospective donors.

5. Maintain communication with chief operating officer and program directors to be aware of emerging and continuing program needs that can be met through creative, program-specific funding strategies.

6. Recruit, train, engage, and recognize volunteers on the Fund Development and Community Relations Committee and other campaign and special event committees.

7. Implement and oversee a 12-month publications/communications plan including the design, production, and distribution of newsletters, annual reports, program brochures, agency prospectus, display materials, and event-related promotional pieces.

8. Act as liaison with local United Way affiliates, including (a) attending community meetings, (b) managing annual internal campaigns, (c) staffing charity fairs, and (c) coordinating Day of Caring projects.

9. Maintain ongoing communication with program staff to identify specific in-kind needs; cultivate and maintain relationships within the community to ensure continuing flow of in-kind donations and services; oversee in-kind donation acceptance, tracking and storage.

10. Oversee all tracking functions of development office including donor records and database, donation acknowledgements, and donor recognition programs.

11. Develop and meet measurable goals and objectives for development initiatives.

12. Participate in agency-wide budget process through the creation, tracking, and reporting of development budget.

13. Participate in agency-wide strategic planning process; responsible for fund development strategic planning and implementation.

14. Assess the effectiveness of the CYS fund development program on a continuing basis and recommend modifications and new approaches.

15. Prepare development office reports for quarterly and year-end reviews.

16. Regularly review policies and procedures of the fund development office.


RELATED TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES


1. Be a flexible and participating member of the CYS team in order to accomplish the agency's overall goals.

2. Attend relevant trainings, conferences and department/program staff meetings.

3. Follow agency policies and procedures, RCWs, WACs and external regulation.

4. Follow Community Youth Services' Code of Ethics.

5. Maintain a personal and professional background so that criminal history remains free from unlawful conduct. Certain crimes may disqualify employees to have unrestricted access to children or vulnerable populations in accordance with Department of Social Health and Services policy and Washington State law. Professional or personal conduct that causes this clearance to be suspended or denied will result in suspension and/or termination of employment. (Pursuant to RCW 43.43.832, 43.43.832(7), 43.43.834, 43.20A.710 and WAC 388-06.)

6. Pass Community Youth Services' driving record check and maintain an acceptable driving record as driving participants is a bona fide occupational qualification for this position. Professional or personal conduct that results in a restricted or denied driving status will result in termination of employment.

7. Use personal or agency vehicle to perform agency business.

8. Demonstrate teamwork and open communication.

9. Maintain confidential information.

10. Represent the Chief Executive Officer at any public meetings such as United Way when requested.

11. Perform other work as assigned.
