Sound
Youth AmeriCorps VISTA Leader
the Church Council of
Greater Seattle
The
Sound Youth VISTA team is a program of the Church Council of Greater Seattle.
We place AmeriCorps*VISTA members with partner nonprofit organizations that all
share a common mission of empowering young people of the greater Seattle area. The
VISTA Leader works with the Sound Youth Program Director, supporting 8 VISTA
service members during their year of service. The Leader works full time for
one year with Sound Youth, growing leadership, project management, and program development
skills.
About
Sound Youth
Members
dedicate a year of their life to serving the greater Seattle community and
empowering young people. This is done through a lens of social justice –
creating partnership with community organizations to help create conditions for
social, economic and racial justice in Seattle. Members attend social justice
trainings through the year in a supportive team environment, cultivating their
own understanding of social justice and using that knowledge to create programs
that fight all forms of oppression. Sound Youth members receive one-on-one
support as well as ongoing training in maintaining a healthy work-life balance.
Overall Responsibilities
·
Design
a year-long social justice training program to be implemented in 2013
·
Build
relationships with other nonprofit organizations
·
Write
blog, Twitter and Facebook updates
·
Update
the Sound Youth website
·
Write
grants
·
Recruit
new members
·
Attend
outreach events
·
Plan
fundraising events
·
Plan
and lead team meetings and trainings twice a month
·
Provide
member support. This can include weekly phone check-ins, one-on-one coaching, special
trainings and mentoring
·
Mediate
conflicts, as needed
·
Liaise
with partner sites and site supervisors
·
Process
member reports and assist with CNCS reporting as needed

One year of experience as an
AmeriCorps VISTA member
·
Demonstrated
commitment to improving the development of others through mentoring, coaching
and training
·
Experience
training and leading groups
·
Excellent
interpersonal communication skills including conflict resolution and written
communication
·
Computer
literate with a robust working knowledge of Excel and Word
·
Strong
project management skills
·
Self-motivated,
self-directed and flexible
·
Committed
to the mission of AmeriCorps VISTA to fight poverty with a passion
Preferred:
·
Experience
with HTML, WordPress and Adobe Acrobat Pro
·
Social
media savvy
·
Familiarity
with Seattle nonprofit youth organizations a plus

AmeriCorps*VISTA
is the national service program designed specifically to fight poverty. AmeriCorps*VISTA
members are stipended volunteers that serve for one year, full time at
nonprofit or governmental organizations building capacity. Sound Youth VISTA
recruits, places and supports VISTA members in nonprofit organizations working

Qualifications
·
Must
be at least 18 years old
·
Must
be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident of the U.S.
·
A
Bachelor’s Degree is preferred, however some college combined with work experience
may substitute for a degree
·
Significant
experience with community service and/or non-profit organization work
·
Must
be available to serve full-time for one year
