Seattle University has an exciting, dynamic opportunity for a Data Analyst to join our community.

The Seattle University Youth Initiative (SUYI) Data Analyst will implement and maintain a comprehensive data management system to enable the collection, storage and analysis of P-20 student and community level data to ensure evidenced based decision-making.

The SUYI Data Analyst will assist Center for Service and Community Engagement (CSCE) staff and community partners in the analysis, reporting and interpretation of data to measure the impact of SUYI activities and to drive the continuous improvement of SUYI strategies, programs, and activities. The SUYI Data Analyst will also provide professional expertise in the implementation and ongoing refinement of the SUYI evaluation plan.

This position reports to the Associate Director for K-12 Partnerships of the Center for Service and Community Engagement. Funding for this position is contingent on external or gift funds.

Essential Job Functions

Data Collection and Monitoring:

  • Implement a longitudinal data tracking system and score card for the Seattle University Youth Initiative and Choice Neighborhood partnership.
  • Identify consistent institutional sources, clarify baseline data, and implement scheduled data collection plan.
  • Maintain and update SUYI databases on a regular basis.
  • Assist CSCE staff and community partners in obtaining FERPA releases.
Data Analysis and Evaluation:

  • Assist CSCE staff and community partners in the analysis and interpretation of data to measure the impact of SUYI activities and to help drive interventions that improve outcomes.
  • Participate in the evaluation of the Youth Initiative's progress on indicators of success.
  • Assist in the refining and ongoing development of the SUYI Evaluation Plan.
  • Engage in ongoing investigation of best practices for the evaluation of place-based strategies and university-assisted community schools.
Data Presentation and Communication:

  • Provide data summaries, reports and presentations to CSCE staff, campus, and community partners, with a particular focus on the Choice Neighborhood grant.
  • Create and maintain online data dashboards for CSCE staff and community partners to see and track progress on outcomes.
Community Engagement:

  • Work collaboratively with SUYI community partners to develop a system for sharing and analyzing data to monitor indicators and drive results.
  • Work collaboratively with community partners engaged in regional place-based efforts to maximize the use of data in strategic planning processes.

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in education, public policy, business administration or a relevant field and a minimum of three years experience in data collection, analysis, design and display.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills, and the ability to communicate technical information to a wide variety of audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the capacity for working collaboratively.
  • Advanced knowledge of statistical and data analysis tools.
  • Advanced skills in SPSS, Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and proficient in Access and/ or other database programs.
  • Knowledge of education data and experience helping practitioners use data to improve performance.
  • Knowledge of systems, community capacity, mobilization and commitment to improving outcomes for low-income youth and families.
  • Understanding of challenges and barriers faced by communities around ethnicity, race, class, gender, privilege and oppression.
  • Strong organization skills with an aptitude for attention to detail. Highly self-motivated and able to exercise initiative. Excellent follow- through and fulfills responsibilities in a timely manner.
  • Possess a strong desire to pursue social justice through initiatives that connect campus with wider community.

Preferred Qualifications

Ph.D. in related field.

Experience working with Social Solutions Efforts to Outcome data management system or a similar system designed to support place-based initiatives.

Knowledge of FERPA guidelines.

In-depth knowledge of evaluation including survey design and administration, focus group protocols, report writing and presentation.

Knowledge and experience working in or with institutions of higher education.

Ability to bring about consensus among diverse constituencies.
