Apple Corps Program Supervisor (Seattle)
JOB SUMMARY: Apple Corps is a program of Solid Ground agency. The program promotes proper nutrition, active living, and healthy school environments for children and families most at risk for hunger, obesity, and poor nutrition in Seattle and King County. The Program Supervisor is responsible for all areas of program management, including supervising staff and volunteers, budgeting, contract management, program evaluation and collaboration with community partners.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES, DUTIES AND TASKS:
25% Provide overall direction, strategic planning, and day-to-day operations of the Apple Corps program; identify and develop program sites for Apple Corps placement; foster and maintain relationships with school and community partner agencies to ensure a clear understanding of their responsibilities and expectations for hosting Apple Corps members. In collaboration with Public Health Seattle King County participate in program planning for the Eat Better Feel Better project. Strategize, plan and implement processes with partners programs to improve coordination of services and community engagement;
20% In collaboration with partner sites coordinate the recruitment effort to hire 4 -- 10 full-time AmeriCorps members. Manage Apple Corps member team meetings and coordinate all member trainings. Compile and prepare all reports required by WA Service Corps including member enrollment forms, requests for application and member evaluations. Monitor member sites and placements to ensure members receive appropriate support;
20% Directly supervise 3 nutrition educators in our Eat Better Feel Better partnership. Oversee and teach nutrition classes and events for youth and families, such as family nights, after-school programs, and other activities through schools and community agencies; adapt program curricula to meet the diverse needs in the community;
10% Prepare annual budget and negotiate contracts for the Apple Corps program; monitor budgets and financials monthly to ensure expenses are within budgetary guidelines; Prepare reports required by funding sources and analyze data collected in order to ensure contract compliance with the Washington Service Corps, CSBG, SNAP-Ed and United Way;
10% Develop collaborative relationships with school Principals and community partner agencies food and nutrition programs, and other Hunger Action Center programs; participate in nutrition, physical activity, and anti-hunger coalitions to ensure coordination of services and to raise program visibility as appropriate. Co-chair the Eat Better, Feel Better Working Committee in conjunction with Public Health Seattle King County;
5% Oversee all aspects of volunteer management including recruiting, training, evaluating, retaining and recognizing community volunteers;
5% Identify grants and assist in fund-raising events that generate funds and in-kind donations for Apple corps; collaborate with Resource Development staff to implement media strategies to create broader public awareness of the program;
5% Participate in program, department, Anti Racism Initiative and agency meetings and trainings as required.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
Requires one of the following:
a) Two years of relevant experience in the health or nutrition education field, including at least one year experience working with low-income populations; OR
b) Bachelor's degree in a related field and two years of relevant experience in the health or nutrition field, including at least one year working with low-income populations; OR
c) Any combination of education, experience and measurable performance which demonstrates the capability to perform the duties of this position.
Also requires:
• Familiarity with national Service Programs (AmeriCorps) and school/education systems;
• 2 years of teaching and managing elementary school level classrooms;
• Minimum 2 - 5 year experience supervising staff and managing and mentoring Americorps members/volunteers;
• Knowledge of food assistance programs, nutrition, and culinary arts.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, including the ability to make public presentations;
• Ability to work individually in a self-directed manner and as part of a team in group projects;
• Excellent organizational skills, ability to handle multiple tasks and to meet deadlines;
• Ability to analysis data for funding reports;
• Ability to effectively market a program and pursue outreach opportunities;
• Willingness and ability to work with people from a variety of racial, cultural and economic backgrounds, with various lifestyles, sexual orientations, and of all ages, including professional chefs, social service providers, volunteers and participants;
• Knowledge of local community services and resources available to populations served by the program;
• Valid driver's license, and ability and willingness to drive throughout King County;
• Proficient knowledge of computer software (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Publisher);
• Valid WA State Food Handlers permit;
• Ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends (approximately 4 times per month) for the purposes of conducting classes and to attend community meetings.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS: This position works in an office setting, performing general office duties 60% of the time and 40% in the field. In the office employees spend 35% working at the computer, 10% on the phone and 5% doing misc. office duties. Employee need to lift/carry 35-50 pounds rarely and push/pull 15-30 pounds regularly, 1-5 pounds frequently. Position has the ability to sit/stand as needed, frequent. Stairs and walking required.
HOURS & COMPENSATION: This is a full time union position paying $20.37 per hour plus benefits. Benefits include medical, dental, short-term and long-term disability insurance, earning 16.3 hours paid personal leave hours per month to start, 11 paid holidays, 401K employer contributed profit sharing plan (full vested after 6 months of work) and tax sheltered health care and dependent care accounts.
