The Trinity Learning Center was created in 1998 to provide homework support and mentoring to Bryant Neighborhood middle school students who attend after school consistently, as well as those who walk in to receive more occasional assistance. The Learning Center resides on location at Trinity Presbyterian Church (1615 6th Ave.), and is advantageously situated two blocks away from Bryant Montessori (a pre-K through 8th grade public Montessori school which has over 100 kids in its middle school) and Jason Lee Middle School, our two primary schools of service.

The Learning Center is open five days a week from 2:30 to 5:30pm. Our AmeriCorps staff each gives 15-20 hours per week serving within Jason Lee and Bryant during the school day. They work one-on-one and in small groups with students around academic and/or behavioral needs. In the 2010-2011 school year, the Learning Center welcomed in 120 different students, with around 30 attending on a weekly basis. Additionally, our staff gave over 1,500 combined volunteer hours at Bryant and Jason Lee during the school day, working with hundreds of students on-site in their classrooms.

Overall: This position leads and oversees all operations of the Trinity Learning Center.

Hours:
- Part-time
- 25 hours per week
o 14 hours direct supervision at the Learning Center. (2:30-5:30, Monday-Thursday, 2:30-4:30 Friday)
o 11 hours performing administrative duties throughout the week for the Learning Center and working with Learning Center staff.

Compensation:
- $16,830 annual salary.
- This is an ongoing 10 months per year position based on a 25 hour work week throughout the school year.
- 8 weeks are able to be taken off throughout the year. 6 of those weeks are to occur during July and August, and 2 during the school year. (Precise dates are open to conversation with Director of Outreach)

Education Desired:
- Bachelor's Degree or above.

Experience Desired:
- Experience as a professional in the Education and/or Social Work fields, especially as they relate to middle and high school students.
- Experience working or living in an urban and/or multi-cultural environment.
- Experience leading a team.
- Experience in a Christian church context.

Primary Responsibilities
- Supervise daily activities and all facets of the Trinity Learning Center.
- Work closely with Trinity's Learning Center AmeriCorps staff and volunteers.
- Build partnerships with parents and guardians of students that support student academic and holistic growth.
- Develop, along with AmeriCorps staff, year-long educational goals with individual students.
- Work with teachers and parents around students' individual academic needs.
- Participate in Camp Trinity, Trinity's summer camping program which takes place the first two weeks of each July.
- Think strategically about the overall strength, weaknesses, and areas of needed growth of the Learning Center. Work closely with Director of Outreach in deciphering new areas in which the Learning Center should begin to move and serve.
- Work alongside other like-minded community organizations for the benefit of Trinity's mission and the good of the city of Tacoma and the Bryant neighborhood.

Staff:
- Maintain a regular schedule during the week and participate in weekly staff meetings.
- Keep staff informed about weekly schedule and notify Director of Outreach of all schedule changes.

Reports to:
- Rod Nash, Trinity Pres. Director of Outreach, ultimately accountable to the Pastor and the Session of Trinity Presbyterian Church.

Ideal Start Date:
- August 15th, 2012
-We would like to have our decision made by early June 2012 if possible so that a certain amount of job shadowing might be done while our current program staff is still in place and the Learning Center is still running here at the end of the 2011-2012 school year.
