Now accepting letters of interest/resumes of persons interested in making a difference in kids' lives through the arts.  The Bellingham Arts Academy for Youth is a performing and visual arts organization serving youth ages 5-18 which has been in existence in Bellingham for five years.  With its own campus/theatre, the group presents approximately eight different theatrical productions annually (set up as courses), as well as ongoing classes and workshops in the arts. Approximately 250 different students attend courses annually.  The group has one full-time CEO/Artistic Director, a part-time office manager, six part-time teachers and roughly twenty teacher assistants/volunteers, as well as an active base of parents who support the program in various ways.  This is a non-profit organization (status pending) with advisors that is supported by a small board and various committees.  We have been breaking even over the past five years, with all staff working at below-level compensation levels because of their love of the mission of this organization.  With the right person's help, we can together create a sustainable business model which will allow us to fulfill our mission more robustly and also provide the working artists/teacher here with a working wage and benefits.

The Bellingham Arts Academy for Youth is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Operations Manager. This is a part-time position based on the salary allotted.  Major areas of responsibility include:

1) Coordinates long-range and annual planning in collaboration with the CEO/Artistic Director
2) Reports on generated profit/loss
3) Develops the annual budget, including providing monthly financial reporting and forecasting, cash flow management, capital spending and expenditures review and approval
4) Supports the CEO/Artistic Director and administrative staff, including helping run daily operations, human resources, and directing administrative operations, as well as other aspects of BAAY as deemed important
5) Managing the operation, scheduling and maintenance of BAAY's physical building
6) Administering and supporting, in conjunction with the CEO/Artistic Director, all educational programs of BAAY
7) Acting as one of the representatives and advocates of BAAY with government agencies, insurance companies, community and local business groups and arts organizations.
8) Working with the BAAY community as it expands, including a possible middle school on site in Fall of 2013 (not administering the school, but weighing in about aspects of the school as it pertains to BAAY's co-existence on site)
9) Developing systems, policies and procedures for smooth operation of BAAY and its missions (see mission statement at bottom)
10) Supporting the CEO/Artistic Director in managing daily operations of the building, staff and programs.
10) Acquiring and coaching a volunteer coordinator and interns as deemed helpful by the CEO/Artistic Director, Board and yourself
11) Collaborating and communicating with companies who provide services to BAAY such as website development, marketing and maintenance (example would be our current relationship with our marketing company, iocreative.com)
11) Operations Director would report to the current CEO/Artistic Director David Post, who has final say on decisions and policy.
12) Performing basic office work such as some data entry and answering of the phone
13) The administrative director will attend all board meetings and provide her/his own report to the board regarding BAAY finances and other relevant administrative issues
14) Administrative director will meet weekly with CEO/Artistic Director to discuss various topics deemed important by both
15) Coordinates/plans with Development/Marketing Director
16) Attends BAAY performances (one of each show minimum) and mixes with parents/community there

Compensation:  $20,000 to $25,000 annually D.O.E.  1st year is fully funded. In subsequent years, part or all of the funding for this position will likely be raised by the organization itself. Salary may increase as our financial success increases.

The ideal candidate will:
- Has a minimum of five years experience in a management position;  a background in arts/theatre management preferred but not required
--Has a minimum of five years' experience of managing budgets and financials,  including an excellent grasp of Quickbooks, Excel, email, web tools, word processing and basic graphics knowledge
- Demonstrate ability to successfully lead, manage, motivate and inspire people
--Have experience in public relations
- Possess excellent interpersonal and communications (both written and oral) skills
- Demonstrate a positive attitude, attention to detail and passion for achieving excellence in one's work
- Demonstrate a strong desire to bring the arts into the lives of children
- Know how to lead in a way that limits drama and stays positive

BAAY Mission Statement
The mission of BAAY is to enrich the lives of young people through the exploration of the arts.
