Youth Force University Coordinator (AmeriCorps*VISTA) – Rainier Valley Boys and Girls Club of King County


YouthForce is an educational employment program at the Boys & Girls Clubs of King County dedicated to maximizing young people becoming engaged in the workplace to develop into positively contributing members of our community. YouthForce’s mission is to provide underserved teens with unique mentored internships, college and career preparation, and the teamwork, leadership, and life skills they need to realize their personal and professional goals. YouthForce’s vision is that all young people have the opportunity to apply their skills, talents, and interests in real world jobs that provide direction for today, plans for tomorrow, and support for a successful future.

Overall Responsibilities
The YouthForce University Coordinator will build capacity around YouthForce’s YouthForce University (YFU) program. YFU is composed of monthly, intensive sessions to prepare teens for post high school life. Resources available during YFU ensure that teens are on target to graduate high school ready with competitive college and scholarship applications, a strong resume, and knowledge on managing their own finances. The VISTA will work to enhance and develop YFU curriculum to further incorporate YouthForce’s five core competencies and Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s nationally recognized programs for post-high school achievement, career development, and financial literacy. The VISTA will also develop and implement tracking and evaluation mechanisms to improve YFU workshops and participant outcomes. Additionally, VISTA will identify and recruit further support through partnership and volunteer opportunities to strengthen current curriculum and to assist in the implementation and sustainability of future YFU curriculum.

Hours and Days Needed

The VISTA Member is expected to serve a flexible, 40 hour week. This includes Sound Youth VISTA Team meetings and trainings on Fridays twice a month. Hours will typically be Monday-Friday but the member is expected to be available to serve Saturday and/or Sunday if there is a weekend event. In the case of weekend events, the schedule will be adjusted accordingly.

Qualifications and Skills Required

YouthForce is seeking an individual who is assertive, flexible and pays close attention to detail. Additionally, the following experience, knowledge and/or abilities are preferred:
·                     Experience in customer relations
·                     Experience in leadership and/or enrichment programs, previous studies and/or work in education or a closely related field
·                     Previous experience working with youth and teens
·                     Interest in working in youth development field
·                     Understanding of how to engage teens in learning
·                     Ability to quickly build positive rapport with both adults and teens
·                     Experience in volunteer recruitment and management
·                     Ability to collaborate with partners
·                     Proven problem solving skills
·                     Self-starter who can see projects through and works well on a team
·                     Ability to effectively manage multiple responsibilities at a time
·                     Experience and knowledge of cultural awareness
Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs

About the Organization

AmeriCorps*VISTA Benefits
·         A living stipend of $12,696/year (pre-tax)
·         A three day Pre-Service Orientation (PSO)

Member Duties and Responsibilities

Qualifications
·         Must be at least 18 years old
·         Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident of the U.S.
·         A Bachelor’s Degree is preferred, however some college combined with work experience may substitute for a degree
·         Significant experience with community service and/or non-profit organization work
·         Must be available to serve full-time for one year
