Washington Youth Soccer is the state's affiliate for US Youth Soccer and is the sixth largest membership in the nation; our organization represents over 128,000 players (ages 4-19) and their families, 15,000 coaches on 12,000 teams and 6,500 referees in the state of Washington. Washington Youth Soccer’s mission is to foster the physical, mental and emotional growth and development of the State of Washington's youth through the sport of soccer at all levels of age and competition.
JOB SUMMARY
This position will lead the implementation and oversight of the Soccer for Success program in one of the nineteen elementary school locations across South Seattle (Kent, Auburn, Highline, Tukwila). The Assistant Coach must follow the U.S. Soccer Foundation curriculum and abide by all Washington Youth Soccer and school district policies. Individual program schedules will be determined by Washington Youth Soccer and school, but the format will be: three 90 minutes sessions per week, spread over two 12-week seasons (fall/spring), immediately following the end of the school day. Start times range from 3:00 pm – 3:45 pm. Coaches will be expected to work for 2 hours on each of the three days.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Implements U.S. Soccer Foundation Soccer for Success curriculum.
2. Assists in overseeing practice sessions that are both stimulating and instructive, conducted on a regular basis with the goal of developing the players greatest potential; teaches basic fundamental skills of soccer; emphasizes and promotes healthy, active lifestyles, good sportsmanship and nutritional eating.
3. Supervises players to promote effective student learning through participation in athletic activities and nutritional education.
4. Assists Head Coach in instructing 2-3 hour coaching clinic for teachers/parents once per year.
5. Oversees equipment and systematic return of all equipment at the finish of each session and season.
6. Oversees Volunteer Coaches, if any
7. Oversees delivery of healthy snack at the start of each session.
8. Follows and implements required monitoring and evaluation policies/tools.
OTHER JOB DUTIES
1. Attends mandatory August training
2. Attends all Washington Youth Soccer Soccer for Success coaching meetings
3. Attends and assists at Family Engagement Events at the conclusion of each season
4. Follows school district procedures for handling injuries
5. Builds professional relationships with school and community partner representatives
6. Communicates with Washington Youth Soccer Lead as required
RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to Washington Youth Soccer Soccer for Success Lead and Head Coach
Works in partnership with school and community partner
CONDITIONS
Work with elementary students in outdoor playing field or indoor course/gymnasium, depending on school location; physical ability to lift and move sports equipment and demonstrate sport skills; may be exposed to inclement weather.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
Graduation from high school or equivalent and must be at least 19 years of age (WIAA regulation). Experience working with volunteers and in youth development settings preferred. Experience working with diverse and varied socio-economic backgrounds and elementary-aged students preferred. Preference will be given to coaches with experience coaching youth soccer or working with elementary-aged students in an educational environment.

Ability to develop concepts such teamwork, healthy lifestyles, sportsmanship and nutrition
Ability to work with Head Coach and second Assistant Coach
Ability to oversee Volunteer Coaches
Ability to follow reporting requirements set forth by Washington Youth Soccer
Ability to implement monitoring requirements such as: BMI testing and Player Surveys
Ability to coach both fall and spring season preferred
Licenses/Special Requirements:
First Aid Certificate and CPR card are required.
Must be able to pass the Washington Youth Soccer Risk Management Assessment and Federal Background Check.
