AmeriCorps Youth Educator (Seattle)


Program Overview: This program provides underserved students with after school and out of school experiences that help them to develop intellectually and emotionally. These experiences include tutoring, academic enrichment, field trips and physical education activities. The person in this AmeriCorps stipend position will serve with the site supervisor to refine, develop and deliver these
activities.

This project will take place both on site at the Center for Wooden Boats South Lake Union Campus and at the CWB site at Cama Beach State Park on Camano Island. Tutoring activities will take place in one of our floating classroom spaces at South Lake Union, or in CWB Cama Beach's Classroom/Firehouse. Physical education activities will take place on and around the waters of Lake Union or Saratoga Passage at Cama Beach State Park.

AmeriCorps Member Responsibilities:

AmeriCorps Members will seve with CWB's Youth Program Coordinator to expand and improve after school and field trip programs
Tutor students
Lead physical education activities
Plan daily student activities
Coordinate student transportation and pick up with partner organization and parents
Assess and track student progress
Coordinate project activities with otheronsite programs
Develop, market, coordinate and deliver field trips in alignment with Washington State Learning Standards
Recruit and assist in training and managing volunteers
Maintain open communication with partners and student parents.

Required Qualifications:

The applicant must meet the requirements for the Individual Placement program with Americorps (Please note that one of these requirements is that the applicant be between the ages of 18 and 25). This position requres an associate's degree or equivalent college level course work. In addition, because this position requires substantial direct contact with children, CWB conducts a criminal background check, and passing that is a requrement for this position.


Job Details:

Dates: Sept 2012 -- July 2013 Position is 40 hours/week depending on schedule -- on call

Compensation: AmeriCorps Stipend
