Hours: 30 hours per week, 2-3 evenings per week

LifeWire's Mission is to end domestic violence by changing individual, institutional and societal beliefs, attitudes and behaviors that perpetuate it. To achieve this we will work with the community to:
• PROVIDE services in East and North King County to people, primarily women and children, who have experienced physical, emotional or sexual abuse;
• PREVENT domestic violence through advocacy, education and support.

OVERVIEW OF COMMUNITY ADVOCACY PROGRAM: LifeWire's Community Advocacy Program provides advocacy- and education for survivors of domestic violence, coordination with the criminal justice system and other services such as weekly support groups for women, children, and youth, legal advocacy, housing advocacy, 24 hour Helpline, and referrals to other service agencies in our community.
OVERVIEW OF POSITION: The Bilingual Community Advocate provides advocacy services to adult survivors of DV and their children.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Community Advocacy
• Provide advocacy and education to survivors of domestic violence.
• Perform at least one weekly helpline shift, on-going telephone advocacy and referrals.
• Assess survivors' situation and develop on-going safety plans through one on one meetings and helpline services.
• Perform group intake sessions.
• Assist survivors in navigating civil and criminal legal systems and social services.
• Make referrals to and provide back-up to facilitate women's support group.

Community Outreach & Education
• Participate in DV awareness month activities.
• Develop on-going relationships with referral services, police, hospitals, CPS, Family Court, court personnel, Probation and Legal Advocates.
• Participate in community coordination meetings.

Meetings & Data Collection
• Participate in agency and group staff meetings, including direct service discussions.
• Participate in system data collection.
• Conduct outcomes.
• Complete necessary paper work and forms in a timely manner.
• Complete a minimum of 30 hours of Advocacy training and 20 hours of on-going training yearly.
• Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Requirements:
• Ability to read, speak and write in English and another language fluently.
• Experience working with adults who are at risk or in crisis.
• Knowledge and experience in crisis intervention or domestic violence, advocacy and safety planning with both adults and children.
• Knowledge of domestic violence, physical, sexual and emotional abuse and the effects on survivors and their children.
• Knowledge of the connection between domestic violence and oppression.
• Knowledge of human service delivery systems and systems advocacy.
• BA in related field. Work experience may substitute for education.
• Dependable transportation, valid Washington State Driver's License & good driving record.
• Ability to lift 20-30lbs.
• Excellent presentation and training skills.
• Familiarity with MS Office and Outlook.
• Experience, ability and willingness to work as a team with diversified staff, volunteers and constituents.
• Updated CPR/First Aid Certificate.
• Updated HIV/AIDS Education Certificate.
• Pass background checks.
• Attend work regularly.
