Part-Time Middle School Language Arts Instructor **
(Part-time, approximately 22-30 hours per week during the duration of the school year)

The Language Arts Instructor position reports to the Supplemental Services Coordinator and serves an integral role within TAF Academy (TAFA) by providing specialized small-group instruction in middle school language arts, designing lesson plans to supplement course content, and aid in the student comprehension of course material.

Start Date: September 4, 2012 (paid Professional Development to be held mid-August)
Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 10:30am – 3:00pm (with the possibility of extra after-school hours)
Program scope: Position ends mid-June 2013 (aligns with Federal Way Public Schools calendar)
Specific responsibilities include:
- Working with middle school students to increase reading and writing skills as shown by weekly assessments
- Create detailed lesson plans for Language Arts each day that describe the goal of each session and be able to monitor student’s progress in tutoring
- Stronng understanding of reading and writing concepts and applications; ability to teach grammar skills, creative writing, dramatic interpretations of literature and help with classroom assignments
- Excellen classroom management skills
Skills Required:
- Ability to work well with limited supervision; independent problem-solving skill to handle multiple tasks and to prioritize appropriately
- Commitment to the mission of TAF
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational abilities
- Patience and flexibility to respond to the changing needs of students
- Strong GPA in tutoring application area (3.or better in subject area)
Superior written, analytical, technical and verbal skills
Preferred Qualifications:- Completion of a Bachelor’s degree in an approved college program or enrollment in Bachelor’s degree program
- Previous teaching/tutoring experience preferred
- Those enrolled in a teaching program are strongly encouraged to apply
$12-14 per hour
