Development Director
Kirkland Arts Center seeks a full-time Development Director to advance and implement fundraising strategies in the areas of individual donations, memberships, corporate sponsorships, grants, and special events. This is a unique opportunity to grow a comprehensive development program for a candidate with a strategic vision. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Development Director will work closely with Board leadership to enhance the Board's fundraising efforts, with an emphasis on individual donor and major gift cultivation.

About Kirkland Arts Center
Kirkland Arts Center is a mid-sized nonprofit based in the Eastside near Seattle. KAC presents compelling arts experiences by offering classes in a variety of media with a focus on ceramics, and critically acclaimed contemporary art exhibitions, all within an historic landmark facility, the Peter Kirk Building. Kirkland Arts Center offers classes in ceramics, sculpture, painting, printmaking, drawing, and mixed media for youth and adults of all skill levels. Kirkland Arts Center celebrates its 50th anniversary and the 120th birthday of the landmark Peter Kirk Building in 2012.

Key Responsibilities
• Create and oversee comprehensive development strategy with support of Board and Executive Director.
• Lead major gifts, individual donation cultivation, and annual campaign. Steward relationships and oversee prospect research.
• Oversee membership program, including fulfillment of appropriate benefits, and manage and coordinate all data/gift entry.
• Solicit corporate sponsorships and service relationships with corporate partners.
• Develop strategy for receiving grants for general operations, facilities, and programs. Oversee grant prospect research, tracking, and reporting to foundations and government agencies.
• Support special events staff in the presentation of events.
• Manage assistants, interns, and volunteers to support development efforts.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Superior writing and oral communication skills and interpersonal and organizational skills are imperative. A solid understanding of financial, budgeting, and accounting procedures is preferred. The position requires the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines, display initiative, and exercise discretion and mature judgment. The Development Director will provide leadership and guidance to administration, volunteers and staff in the area of development.

Requirements include
Bachelor's degree with a minimum of three years of progressively responsible development experience, preferably with a cultural institution. Successful individual donor and major gift cultivation, grant writing, and demonstrated accountability to fundraising goals required. Computer proficiency and familiarity with donor database systems are required. A strong relationship to the Eastside community is preferred.
