Girl Scouts of Western Washington (www.GirlScoutsWW.org) has a newly created position – Volunteer Services Manager – Learning Support! This position serves as a member of our Volunteer Services Team and will ensure volunteers receive a consistent, quality volunteer experience and will work with t our staff members to ensure they have the knowledge and tools to effectively support our fantastic volunteers! This position is the department lead for developing and implementing staff learning opportunities as they relate to volunteer support and for the development and implementation of a volunteer-based situational coach model. Essential Functions
Primary:
Research, develop and/or revise short, culturally appropriate learning modules on a variety of topics that have been requested by staff and/or volunteers, and develop scripted models that can be facilitated by different staff and volunteers.
Lead Volunteer Services (VS) team in the development of culturally appropriate curriculum and delivery of in-services to staff on a variety of topics related to volunteer retention, on-going support and management. In-services may be delivered via workshops, online, GS University (online) modules, or a combination.
Work with the Volunteer Services (VS) staff on the implementation and monitoring of a Situational Coach model: volunteers are recruited and prepared to support other volunteers with specific, defined situations and concerns, e.g. effectively working with their troop’s parents, conflict resolution coaching for a specific situation.
Work in conjunction with other VS staff tasked with volunteer learning to develop online evaluation tools to assess workshops and other learning opportunities’ effectiveness 4-8 weeks after a volunteer has completed workshop learning opportunity.
Work in conjunction with other VS staff to develop a staff orientation that includes GSLE, intercultural considerations, working with volunteers, etc.
Consult in volunteer corrective action or termination, as well as serve as a neutral partner to staff and/or volunteers in navigating these situations.
Coordinate with the Pathways and other departments to maintain a comprehensive list of volunteer positions.
Secondary:
In conjunction with other departments, develop and implement strategies aimed at increasing retention through intercultural networking and/or mentoring and building and sustaining a pluralistic, high-quality core of volunteers who are truly engaged in support of the mission.
Special projects and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or combination of related education and experience
- Two years’ experience managing/supervising volunteers--ideally in a multi-cultural environment-- including short term and intermittent volunteers.
- At least one year experience with curriculum writing for informal educational settings preferred.
- At least one year experience with developing and implementing video, podcast and other current technology-supported learning opportunities preferred.
- Demonstrated success working with volunteers and managing and leading teams, preferably in a multi-cultural environment
- Demonstrated success cultivating and working within culturally diverse communities
- Working knowledge of and experience with the situational leadership model and coaching preferred
- Fluency in Spanish, Mandarin, Russian or other non-English language frequently spoken in Western Washington preferred
- Excellent public speaking and writing skills
- Strong interpersonal skills to ensure effective interactions with individuals at all levels and backgrounds
- Availability to work varied hours, including nights and weekends as necessary
- Proficient with Outlook and Word and familiar with Excel and Access, or other database program
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task, prioritize deadlines, work independently, take initiative and maintain confidentiality
- Valid Washington State driver’s license, vehicle in working condition, proof of insurance, or the ability to fulfill timely and extensive travel requirements across widespread region.
- Effective conflict resolution skills
- Maintain membership in Girl Scouts of the United States of America
- Willingness and ability to take relevant Girl Scout courses offered by Girl Scouts of Western Washington as required.
- Satisfactory results from criminal background search
