Job Title: Educational Partnerships VISTA

Job Description:
We have openings for TWO (2) Educational Partnerships VISTA members who will work on a key goal of Big Brothers Big Sisters of increasing scholastic competency and grades and reducing truancy to increase educational success. VISTA members will work to recruit volunteers who can work with young people to stay in school and achieve educational success. VISTA members will also form relationships with school counselors, teachers, and administrators to identify and enroll students who would benefit from a Big Brother or Big Sister.
Position responsibilities:
• Build connections with community organizations, businesses, higher education, and volunteer groups to find qualified and dedicated individuals to be volunteers who can work with youth to achieve educational success.
• Serve on one of Big Brothers Big Sisters' initiatives to increase participation of Latino, African American, LGBT, and/or Native American individuals in the program.
• Hold meetings with counselors and teachers to inform them as to the criteria of our program and our shift in focus to support those young people who need us most who can benefit most from our services.
• Take part in educational events and internal and external coalition groups to discuss how best to support educational success.
• Develop a system to record and assess the strength of each relationship they develop.
• Execute a social media plan to support the agency's efforts around volunteer recruitment and mentee outreach.
• Take part in other organization efforts to support the work of Big Brothers Big Sisters, including assisting at fundraising events, working to build a strong infrastructure of support for volunteers, and giving input into agency goals and policies.
• The nature of this work requires availability on some nights and weekends.

Skills and Qualifications:
• High School Diploma Required.
• Basic office skills required.
• Experience with community organizing, outreach, or engagement desired.
• Experience with educational systems desired.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills reflecting solid customer service both in person and via the telephone, email and high level interviewing skills required.
• Able to succeed in a fast-paced environment required.
• Able to work with confidential information required.
