YWCA Program Manager, Clothing Services (Seattle)

REPORTS TO: Senior Director, Employment and Regional Services


LOCATION: YWCA Fifth and Seneca -- Downtown Seattle


DESCRIPTION: The Program Manager provides day to day leadership for Dress for Success Seattle, a program which promotes the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and career development tools, and for the YWCA Working Wardrobe. Major responsibilities include volunteer management, staff supervision, community outreach, and program administration.


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Personnel Management

• Recruit, hire, train and supervise program staff. (Current staff consists of one Program Assistant).

• Recruit, train and supervise 40+ program volunteers and 40-50 event volunteers in collaboration with YWCA Volunteer Services.

• Train and supervise up to six program interns at any given time.

Service Delivery

• Recruit clients through contacts with YWCA programs and other human service organizations

• Ensure quality customer service is provided to clients and all guests, donors, and visitors

• Ensure that client service goals are met

• Coordinate the Professional Women's Group (PWG) in conjunction with volunteers

• Assist with client dressings as needed

Budget Management and Fundraising

• Participate in budget development; monitor program expenditures to ensure consistency with budget.

• Collaborate with YWCA Development staff on the development and implementation of an annual fundraising plan.

• Participate actively with YWCA Development staff and volunteer committees to plan and implement fundraising activities.

Community Relations

• Collaborate with YWCA Community Affairs on the production of print collateral, newsletter, web content and media relations.

• Represent program at community events as needed.

• Build and maintain strong relationships with key community constituents such as partner agencies, donors, retailers, and the community at large.

Program Administration

• Ensure that DFS Seattle operates in accordance with the DFS Worldwide requirements; attend annual DFS Worldwide conference; lead local implementation of campaigns or partnerships initiated by DFS Worldwide.

• Coordinate with YWCA Facilities staff to ensure that program site is maintained.

• Manage clothing and accessory donations and inventory.

• Coordinate community donations with drop off centers

• Support the YWCA's Social Justice Initiative by understanding how racism, sexism, classism and other oppressions play out in institutions and systems.

• Coach and mentor direct reports to provide culturally relevant conflict resolution and problem solving strategies.

• Assure that volunteers are treated with respect and dignity regardless of race, ethnic background, gender or socioeconomic background. Incorporate volunteers, where applicable, into program operations

• Provide adequate opportunities for direct reports to receive volunteer management training

• Other duties as required



QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES

• BA degree in related field (equivalent combination of education and experience considered)

• 1 year supervisory and program administration experience. Volunteer management experience is highly desirable.

• 3 years professional experience providing services for disadvantaged adult populations.

• Demonstrated ability to successfully monitor for accuracy and timely completion of reports, paperwork, expenditures, client files.

• Basic computer literacy.

• Commitment to social justice and increased opportunity for disadvantaged and low income women.

• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

• Core competencies expected: communication: oral and written, interpersonal skills, social justice advocacy, fostering diversity, collaboration, initiative, planning and organizing/time management, and discernment/judgment


DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Knowledge of and experience as a service provider with any of the following: employment services, homeless, crisis intervention, substance abuse, mental health, case management.

• Knowledge of services available in Seattle-King County for low-income youth and families


RATE, HOURS, BENEFITS

• $17.81 per hour +, DOE

• This is a full-time, exempt position. The YWCA standard workweek is 40 hours per week.

• Regular evening hours and occasional weekend hours required.

• Excellent benefit package including medical insurance retirement plans, plus generous vacation, holiday and sick-leave plans.

• As a condition of employment, the YWCA requires all employees hired on or after July, 1 2009 to make a 5% contribution into a 403(b) plan sponsored by the YWCA until they are eligible for the YWCA Retirement Plan. Once an employee is eligible (typically after two years) for the YWCA Retirement Plan, that individual is no longer required to participate in the 403B plan, but is required to participate in the YWCA Retirement Plan at a reduced pay rate of 5%. This reduction in pay coupled with a local YWCA and National YWCA match reaffirms the YWCA's commitment to the long-term self sufficiency of our staff and is a benefit for YWCA employees. It is important to note; however, the 5% reduced pay rate will lead to a reduction in pay, but, will never reduce wages below the minimum wage required by the State of Washington. This new pay rate will be the basis of any future YWCA salary adjustments. If you have worked in a YWCA agency previously and qualified for YWCA retirement, your deducted wages along with YWCA contributions will immediately be transferred to the YWCA retirement.
