Custodian (YMCA Camp Seymour)

Starting Wage: $9.45 tp $11.31/hr, depending on qualifications, plus excellent benefits.


Hours: 40 hours per week may range from 4am to 10:30pm and may include a regular Saturday or Sundays; a set schedule within this set of hours will be determined and change for each camp season.


The YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties is seeking a positive, energetic individual to be a part of the Camp Seymour team. This position performs the necessary functions and activities required to maintain a clean, safe and pleasing appearance of the camp and grounds.


Key Responsibilities

• Cleaning will include, but is not limited to, sweeping, cleaning windows, cleaning spills, sweeping or mopping floors, removing scuff marks from walls and floors, cleaning bathrooms and, gum removal, dusting, odor control, and trash removal.

• Maintenance work will include, but is not limited to, mowing lawns, grounds keeping, fixing equipment, general repairs to toilets, sinks, showers and other camp fixtures.

• Document requests by staff and members and report those to the supervisor. Note breakage and additional cleaning needs. Report to supervisor conditions that require an immediate response.

• Perform additional custodial duties as required by supervisor on weekly work assignment list.

• Assist other departments and branches as needed for ongoing or special events.

• Maintain a consistent, professional image through dress, actions and relationships with members. Speak enthusiastically on behalf of the Y at given opportunities.

• Participate in applicable training and conferences to further professional growth as outlined in annual training plan.

• Attend and participate in staff meetings as requested.

• Represents the YMCA and self in a professional manner of safety and fun.


Minimum Qualifications


• The ability to learn and practice the correct procedures and techniques used in cleaning the facility.

• The ability to learn and practice the safe and correct operation of the equipment assigned to perform the required tasks.

• The ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds on a regular basis.

• The ability to demonstrate a friendly, courteous and professional manner in dealing with staff and members, and the ability to understand and adhere to YMCA policies and procedures.
