Boys & Girls Club Part Time Program Specialist Temporary Position (Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Teen Centers)

JOB SUMMARY:
This position is a temporary position available now until October 2012.
Under the supervision of the Program Director or his/her designee, a program specialist plans, organizes, implements, supervises, mentors, and evaluates all programs and activities provided in a specific program area. The mentoring program helps to empower children and youth to make positive life choices that enable them to maximize their potential. A mentor will support, guide, and encourage members. The mentor can help the youth develop and reach positive academic, career, and personal goals.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Promote safety of members, quality in programs and appearance of the club at all times.
•Provide guidance and role modeling to members.
•Promote and stimulate program participation, welcome new members and participate in their orientation process.
•Monitor and report 1)percentage increase in youth enrolled in mentoring programs since the beginning of the program cycle, 2) percentage of youth successfully completing mentoring program requirements and 3) number of mentored youth exhibiting a desired change in one or more of the following targeted behaviors: Antisocial Behavior, Family Relationships, and Social Competencies.
•Participate in weekly staff meetings as required.
•Plan and conduct programs and activities in a special program area. Assure that there is a daily written schedule and that activities begin and end on time.
•Prepare weekly reports as directed for the Program Director about activities, special programs, attendance and other reports as required.
•Maintain close daily contact with JBLM Staff, BGCSPS Staff, club members, supervisor and volunteers to receive and provide information, discuss issues, and understand guidelines/instructions.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
•High School Diploma or GED - AA strongly preferred
•Minimum 1 year experience working with youth and adolescents
•Demonstrated success planning, implementing and evaluating programming for youth
•Demonstrated experience developing a strong mentor program
•Strong verbal and written communication skills
•Ability to demonstrate enthusiasm and passion
•Must pass National Criminal Background Check
•Must pass pre-employment drug test
•First Aid/CPR Training (able to obtain on the job)
•Able to work a flexible schedule
•Ability to establish and maintain rapport with youth, parents, partners, staff, and other service providers
•Ability to be consistent and encourage honesty, responsibility, fairness, sportsmanship
& respect for all involved
•Ability to motivate youth and keep them engaged
•Demonstrated ability to maintain professional boundaries and adhere to confidentiality
•May be required to drive agency vans and if so, must be 21 years old, meet licensing and insurance requirements

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This position may involve lifting, bending, standing, walking, sitting, talking, hearing, reaching, and grasping. Must be able to demonstrate and/or describe activities to youth. This position works around youth and adults with a moderate exposure to noise. This position will work both indoors and outdoors. This position is on a military base and credentials are strongly encouraged.
