Seeking Leaders for Seattle Urban Youth Crews! (Seattle Urban Parks)

SCA (the Student Conservation Association), seeks qualified individuals to lead local, urban high school students in the 2012 Seattle and WA National Parks Summer Crew Programs. Seattle: June 25 -- July 27, 2012 - Co-Lead a commuting crew of 12 members, ages 15-19 - Crews run Mon-Fri for 5-6 weeks - Facilitate job readiness & youth leadership skills while working on trails & habitat restoration projects in Seattle's public parks WA State National Parks Crews: multiple crew sites throughout WA State, June 25 -- early August, 2012 - Co-Lead a residential trail crew of 8 members, ages 15-19 - Three sessions of 15 day crews throughout the summer -- work one or all three - Facilitate youth leadership & development skills while working on trails & habitat restoration projects on WA State's public lands

Primary Responsibilities
Crew Manager - Lead and manage work outcomes and crew dynamics Actively manage project & member risk to maintain a safe work environment Plan for and carry out Environmental Education & Green Job Readiness curriculum
Act as mentor for local, urban youth
Technical Advisor - Supervise the project & job skills training & safe tool use of crew members Manage the quality & technique of work performed Promote leadership development within team
Partnership Representative - Manage relationship with agency partner Work collaboratively with agency on program logistics Ensure successful and timely completion of work project
Program Administrator - Communicate with SCA field support staff as required Complete required program reporting and documentation Manage vehicles, equipment and any necessary purchasing for crew and project Ensure compliance with all SCA Risk Management policies & procedures

Qualifications:
Minimum 21 years of age Possess High School diploma, Bachelors degree preferred Experience teaching or working with urban youth, outdoor setting preferred Valid driver's license and MVR that meets SCA standards or reliable method of transportation required Ability to meet SCA's criminal background check standards and medical screening Possess current CPR & First Aid certification, or ability to obtain (WFA or WFR required for WA State Crews) Must attend mandatory crew leader training May 17-26, 2012 on the Kitsap Peninsula. Ability to lift up to 40 lbs Knowledge and experience with a variety of hand tools Hike and work in a variety of weather conditions

Compensation: Up to $3,450 on Seattle Crews or up to $5,175 on WA State Crews depending on experience & crew length.
