Seattle Architecture Foundation - Shape Seattle!
Part-Time Program Director:
Youth Programs and Model Exhibit
About the Seattle Architecture Foundation (SAF)
The purpose of the Seattle Architecture Foundation (SAF) is to connect people to the profound influence of design and inspire them to engage in shaping their communities. We believe design shapes people and that people should take an active part in shaping the design of the communities they live, work and play in. Through guided walking tours, youth programs, exhibits and public events, SAF provides an exciting and comprehensive sense of how architecture and design affect and enrich every facet of our lives. SAF is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. It is supported by dedicated volunteers and generous donors. Primary funding comes from corporate and individual donations and program fees.
Position Overview
The Program Director is primarily responsible for the oversight, development, marketing and direction of all SAF Youth Programs and our Annual Model Exhibit under the supervision of the Executive Director. The Program Director manages volunteer teams who are responsible for planning and implementing all Youth Programs (workshops, after-school programs, tours) and the Annual Model Exhibit (planning, special events, operations). This person must enjoy working with the public and volunteers and must provide an accessible and professional public face for SAF. This position is responsible for both the big picture thinking and coordination of program details for all Youth Programs and the Model Exhibit. This position also works with the Executive Director and other staff to coordinate SAF's volunteer engagement program and special SAF events. Multi-tasking is essential. This position requires non-traditional work hours and will include evening and weekend commitments. Currently, this position is 20 hours a week. Like other nonprofits, SAF is suffering from cutbacks. The goal is to transition this position to full-time with additional responsibilities as the financial picture allows. No promises can be made at this time about when that may happen. The position will not become fulltime until it can be sustained at that level.
About SAF Youth Programs and Model Exhibit
• Youth Programs
SAF works with families and youth of all ages year-round to inspire a lifelong connection to the design of our community. Our programs are educational, interactive and hands-on allowing kids with any level of interest or knowledge in design to participate. Current SAF youth programs include: Art Generation (teen program), Inbetween (tween program), Arc.i.tek (design competition), Family Model Making Workshops and Family Tours (for kids), after-school and summer programs and our Places + Spaces: A Tool for Educators (online curriculum).
• Annual Architectural Model Exhibit
Now in our 15th year, this exhibit runs for 5 weeks typically in the summer months (June -- July) and is open to the public regularly and free of charge. By bringing together a variety of models by professionals and students, this exhibit illustrates the role architecture models play in the design and development of our built environment. Over 70 physical models, renderings and digital model imagery are on display in a downtown space. This exhibit is organized around a theme and includes an Opening Reception, Annual Napkin Sketch Silent Auction and other special events.
