Children's Home Society of Washington is the state's oldest statewide, private, not-for-profit organization serving children and families. Our mission is to develop healthy children, create strong families, build engaged communities, and to speak and advocate for children. Each year, the Society serves thousands of children and parents across Washington through a variety of programs.
We are seeking an individual to join CHSW who believes in its mission and is passionate about the services we provide to our consumers. The person must be eager to call into play his/her skills to make a difference in the lives of children and families.

POSITION: Parent Lead/Community Organizer

POSITION SUMMARY:
These parent leads will work as community organizers and be trained through the Somali Leadership Training Project. Each Parent Lead will be responsible for working with and engaging a part of the Somali community -- Elders, Women and Youth. Parent Leads will act as community organizers and help with recruiting participants for new programming, such as English classes, computer skills training and youth programs. The project goal is to empower and organize individuals within the North-end Somali population, and provide them skills to help them to find resources, build partnerships, provide programs to meet their needs, and to advocate for themselves, their families and the Somali community.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Participates in training workshops and hands-on projects to increase skills in accessing and developing resources on behalf of the Somali community
• Recruits participants for programming, such as English classes, computer training and youth programming
• Helps with outreach and advertise programming in the community
• Shares community organizing skills learned in training with other community members

QUALIFICATIONS:
• High School Diploma/GED (preferred)
• Familiarity with North-end Somali Community, preferred
• Bilingual in Somali/English
• Able to work flexible hours, some evening or weekend work
• Own transportation (preferred)
