POSITION TITLE: Lead Teacher (SeaTac)
DEPARTMENT: Youth Program
REPORTS TO: Youth Program Manager
SUPERVISES: Youth Program Specialists and Volunteer Tutors
STATUS: Non-exempt Regular Part Time (22 hours/week); Approximately 2:30-7:00pm Monday-Thursday and 2:00-6:00 Friday
SUMMARY:
Prepare and implement all SeaTac Youth Program activities for youth age 8-20, including: academic classes, enrichment clubs, summer programming and family engagement activities. Recruit students and maintain records. Communicate regularly with families, schools, and the SeaTac community. Supervise and direct assistant staff and volunteers. Work as a team with other Youth Program staff. Attend all monthly ReWA staff meetings and Youth Program trainings and/or meetings, including Youth Program Quality Improvement (YPQI) workshops.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Preparation:
· Recruit students on an on-going basis to meet contract goals and requirements
· Maintain waiting list as necessary for potential program participants
· Prepare and maintain classroom and materials, including daily snack
· Compile and keep accurate records of students attendance and performance data, and report on a monthly basis, per contract requirements
· Develop and track Youth Program Quality (YPQ) program goals and outcomes, in collaboration with other YP Staff
· Facilitate announcements and classroom meetings
Teaching:
· Develop and implement program curriculum aligned to support student’s academic and social needs
· Utilize daily and weekly program lesson plans
· Provide structured, engaging tutoring sessions in one-on-one, small group, and classroom settings to support student progress in core subjects, homework, test preparation, and study skills development
· Organize and lead additional academic and enrichment activities in collaboration with other YP staff, including: summer programming, field trips, service projects, and supplementary groups
· Outreach to and communicate regularly with families, schools, teachers, and counselors to assess and ensure student progress
Supervision:
· Supervise and direct assistant staff and volunteers
· Work with YP Lead Teachers and Youth Program Manager to provide training for assistant staff and volunteers
· Manage classroom and student behavior by reinforcing positive values and handling sensitive, conflict situations
· Work together with other YP staff to ensure student engagement, safety and success
Youth Program Team:
· Communicate and meet regularly with site staff to discuss and plan programming, evaluate student progress, recruit/enroll new students and ensure program and grant goals are being met
· Attend all monthly YP Team meetings, including Youth Program Quality Improvement (YPQI) trainings
· Report and communicate program status to Youth Program Manager
Other:
· Prepare and implement family engagement activities and outreach including: phone calls, home visits, family nights
· Maintain confidentiality when working with youth
· Attend monthly agency meetings, as well as other relevant community-based, school district, or provider meetings
· Submit all paperwork including contract reporting, timesheets, and other agency forms in a timely manner
· Any other duties as assigned by the Youth Program Manager
QUALIFICATIONS OF IDEAL CANDIDATE:
· Demonstrated dedication and experience working with diverse youth and communities through education
· Ability to communicate and work well with staff in a multi-ethnic environment
· Demonstrated organizational skills
· Commitment to teamwork and collaboration
· Ability to follow through on goals and assigned tasks
· Respect for others’ experiences, opinions, languages, values, and cultures
· Ability to be flexible and patient
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
· Must have at least a high school diploma or GED (Bachelor’s degree preferred)
· Must have prior experience working with youth (teaching experience preferred)
· Must be able to pass a Washington State background check and be able to provide fingerprints for state requirements
· Must be bilingual in English and Burmese or Somali
