Position Title: YouthBuild Construction Worksite Supervisor / James W. Ray Orion Center
Job Closing Date: 3/28/12

WORK SCHEDULE: This position is full time and non-exempt. Work hours will vary; some evenings and weekends.

POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the YouthBuild Program Manager, the YouthBuild Construction Worksite Supervisor will be responsible for providing supervision and direction to YouthBuild participants at various Construction Training Sites. In addition to encompassing all programmatic, leadership development, grant compliance and reporting, student supervision and management activities of this federally funded project. YouthBuild educates and trains participants with multiple barriers, ages 18-24. YouthBuild key elements include opportunities for participants to earn their GED, gain basic construction credentials, with the ultimate goal of placing program participants in post-secondary education and/or facilitating participants' entrance into the livable wage jobs in the fields of construction with an emphasis on green building.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Works with Construction Partners to oversee YouthBuild's intensive construction training component.
•Ensures program participants get consistent and adequate skills training.
•Earns certification in the Home Builders Institue Pre-Apprentice Construction Training (PACT).
•Designs and implements a 6 month PACT curriculum for trainees.
•Trains all participants in work site safety and practical, job-readiness skills.
•Oversees YouthBuild's on-site and in-shop construction training component.
•Helps set standards for appropriate behavior on the construction site.
•Ensures work-site safety, learning of safety procedures, and proper construction techniques.
•Mentors, supervises, and teaches youth with little or no work history who have many barriers.
•Manages student time sheets and payroll.
•Completes student assessments, case notes, and documentation as it relates to the job-training component of the program.
•Completes and posts monthly program calendar for students and staff.
•Works with YouthBuild Management Team to coordinate YouthBuild's construction mentorship program.
•Coordinates with the YouthBuild Program Manager in scheduling and day-to-day program operations.
•Assists participants in the development of career goals and job opportunities in conjunction with other YouthBuild staff.
•Mediates and defuses potential conflicts among participants, worksite employees, volunteers and YouthCare Staff.
•Works with other YouthBuild/YouthCare staff in personnel and program management.
•Receives training and is required to conduct pre-employment and random, monthly Urinary Analysis (Drug Screens).
•Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

PREFERENCES:
•BA in industrial arts, construction management, education, or a related field preferred.
•Eight or more years of experience in the construction field may be considered.

REQUIREMENTS:
•Three to five years experience in the construction field, particularly residential construction.
•Knowledge of affordable housing and construction techniques used by program partners.
•Strong verbal and written communication skills.
•Ability to facilitate a credentialed construction curriculum.
•Acceptance of a variety of lifestyles, behaviors, and cultural and spiritual practices.
•Ability to maintain professional behavior by keeping appropriate boundaries with youth and staff members of the Orion Center.
•Ability to work as a member of a team.
•Able to operate a 15-passenger van.
•Ability to pass a DSHS Criminal Background Check.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
•Ability to perform moderate physical work, exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and 10 to 20 pounds frequently, and up to 50 pounds of force occasionally.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS -- Within 30 Days of Hire
•Must have current negative TB test
•CPR / First Aid Certification
•HIV / AIDS Training (minimum 4 hours)
•When driving YouthCare vehicles, you must possess a valid WA State Drivers License and have taken Van Driver Certification Training or an approved Defensive Driving Course.
