Position Description: Short-Term Program Assistant
Youth Leadership Program (YLP) with Bosnia and Herzegovina

This short-term Program Assistant is responsible for supporting the execution of this Youth Leadership Program hosted by FIUTS. The position is contracted for a specific time period, April 6-May 13, 2012, for 130 - 140 hours of work both on the University of Washington campus and at locations around the city. The ideal candidate is flexible and energetic, has experience working with youth and in cross-cultural environments, and is knowledgeable about the Seattle area.

Duties Include:
- Execute day to day YLP Program activities, including site visits, workshops, meals, and tourist activities -- work with Program Coordinator and other FIUTS staff to ensure supervision for participants
- Collaborate with Program Coordinator, FIUTS staff, professional contacts and others to maintain program schedule and ensure safe and productive program activities
- Finalize and oversee implementation of program schedules and itinerary
- Provide support and encouragement to YLP participants; respond promptly and appropriately to student inquiries and concerns
- Reinforce learning outcomes and model appropriate behavior in a variety of casual and professional settings
- Assist in training, support, & supervision of FIUTS Facilitators and high-school volunteers
- Support and manage last minute program changes
- Collect and summarize evaluations
- Assist in producing final reports and acknowledgements

Qualifications:
- Experience with program management, scheduling, and youth activism
- Demonstrated writing and communication ability
- Public speaking experience with large and small groups
- Understanding of civic engagement topics and US culture and systems
- Sensitivity to diverse cultures and understanding of cross-cultural communication skills
- Experience with social media and communications
- Knowledge of non-profit organizations and higher education environments a plus
- Strong work ethic, flexibility, and willingness to work non-traditional hours
- Valid WA State Driver's License

Compensation: This is a short-term contract position, with a total stipend of $1,500 for the program. No benefits are included, except for food and lodging during all program activities and an ORCA card for public transportation.
