YouthBuild Education and Leadership Coordinator (Tacoma, WA):

Tacoma Goodwill is a multi-million dollar retail and production operation with 28 stores in 16 counties, employing over 1,100 employees. Job Summary: YouthBuild is a program to involve unemployed young adults in building affordable housing in their communities. It gives youth between the ages of 18-24 skills in the construction trades coupled with academic training leading to a GED. The position of YouthBuild Education and Leadership Coordinator teaches youth the skills necessary to be job/education ready and to provide supportive guidance and encourage the development of their leadership skills.

Principal Functions/Responsibilities:

Plan, schedule and instruct YouthBuild Students in job skills, leadership, and entrance into post-secondary education; work with students to learn how to construct resumes, interview skills, and apply on-line and in person for jobs; recruit relevant guest speakers and trainers to enhance the youth's education and employability; design and implement educational visits, outings, and retreats to build the team and expose youth to higher learning; instruct youth in all phases of leadership including history, methods, practice, public speaking, and life planning; operate and guide the Youth Policy Councils; develop and maintain relationships with local colleges, vocational schools and training programs; assist students in their transition to employment, military service and post-secondary education; participate in arranging and implementing community service projects; transport YouthBuild participants as necessary; attend meetings and retreats as required.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree preferred. Must have a minimum of three years experience in career counseling, educational advising, or life skills training with young adults; a strong commitment to helping young adults succeed in their life, learn leadership and feel empowered to improve their circumstances; demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and present classes and workshops for young adult; ability to gain rapport and relate in a sensitive manner with youth with a multi-racial and multi-cultural background; ability to coach young people and help them to plan and implement the stepping stones to their dreams; basic knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and Outlook; valid Washington driver's license.
