Salary Range: 16 ($17.25-$19.16 per hour)

Neighborhood House Programs
Since 1906, Neighborhood House has been helping diverse communities of people with limited resources attain their goals for self-sufficiency, financial independence, health and community building. Our services include early childhood education (including Head Start and Early Head Start), mentoring and tutoring, emergency referral services, self-sufficiency/employment classes and services (including ESL and citizenship), job placement and training, substance abuse services, transportation and outreach for the elderly and disabled and publication of the Voice newspaper. Annually, Neighborhood House serves over 13,500 individuals. Of those, 80 percent are refugees and immigrants.
Scope
Neighborhood House facilitates group-oriented Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) Prevention programming. The Prevention Educator is responsible for planning and facilitating group activities for youth ages 8-14 and parents/adults. This will include using the Life Skills Training Program and Creating Lasting Family Connections curriculums in a group series format. The Prevention Educator will collaborate with other staff and community partners to implement all parts of our prevention programming.
Responsibilities:
Assist in developing relationships with schools, community centers and other organizations for the purpose of establishing and maintaining groups.
Coordinate program planning and scheduling.
Facilitate group activities using established best practice curriculum.
Mediate and problem solve peer and youth/adult situations.
Motivate and encourage youth and adults to participate fully in activities.
Maintain safe and engaging environment during programs and transportation times.
Support youth and adults for additional social, health, or education needs, and make timely referrals to appropriate providers.
Maintain program documentation and records.
Attend required meetings and trainings.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in education, human services or related field, or equivalent combination of education and work experience with youth and/or at least two (2) years experience in providing health and social support to elementary and middle school youth.
Proven group facilitation skills with children, youth and adults.
Highly positive and enthusiastic style. Capable of motivating others.
Demonstrated ability to keep accurate records.
Ability to work both independently, with considerable self-direction, and as a contributing member of a team.
Ability to communicate effectively with individuals from a wide range of professional and cultural backgrounds.
Must pass the Washington State Patrol Background check (re-check every two years).
Ability to work with and be sensitive to a diverse cultural, ethnic and racial population.
Willingness to comply with the established agency performance standards which may include: productivity/personal responsibility, client/customer service-orientation, embracing a team player orientation, and maintaining a professional demeanor.
Basic knowledge in Microsoft Office software.
