Project 206 Position Description:


Teacher
 
Project 206 is a service and project-based learning focused academic summer camp hosted at Cleveland High School by the Seattle Youth Engagement Zone and the YMCA. The Y is a well-known and respected not for profit organization and the Seattle Youth Engagement Zone works with the Seattle Public Schools to engage youth through service learning. This partnership creates a 6 week summer camp serving a diverse group of 8th grade students from Aki Kurose and Asa Mercer Middle Schools who will attend Cleveland High School’s STEM program in 9th grade. Project 206 serves a diverse population of youth from varying socioeconomic backgrounds. We are looking for teachers to fill four positions for the duration of our program.

REQUIREMENTS:
• A relationship focused educator who can build strong rapport with targeted students, their parents, the Cleveland High School Community, and Project 206 staff
• Participates fully in the Project 206 cooperative staff team and works toward an environment where each member is valued and respected
• Ablity to provide classroom instruction to students in our core subject areas of 8th-9th grade English, Mathematics, Humanities, Science/Writing, and Life Skills, as assigned
• Provides for the instructional and educational needs of students with social, behavioral, emotional or family difficulties
• Develops service focused, project or problem-based curriculum that intersects and complements all subject areas, meets Project 206’s academic goals and is aligned with Washington State standards for education
• Assists, coordinates, and implements the development of formal and informal behavioral and academic management plans alongside Project 206 staff
• Utilizes strong classroom management skills to create a healthy and productive learning environment for both Project 206 students and staff
• Attends and participates in all required staff meetings, parent or family meetings, field trips, and service learning activities - both on and off campus
• Attends and participates in 4 paid service learning curriculum development sessions
• Facilitates informational and curricular meetings and communications with selected student participants and their families as well as members of the Cleveland High School community
• Evaluates all student work, determines final grades, and calculates academic credit and service learning hours
• Maintains records and reports regarding each students' attendance and academic progress namely (pre- and post- assessments as well as regularly monitoring student academic progress)
• Understands that curriculum will be submitted to Project Director for approval by or in advance of project deadlines
• Works with other teachers and Project Director to align individual curriculum with group curriculum

• Has energy and enthusiasm for working with targeted youth
• Has excellent interpersonal communication skills, embraces open communication, and welcomes and provides feedback to and from peers and youth
• Has the ability to build strong relationships with youth and adults from a variety of ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds
• Has extensive facilitation and youth development experience, especially with diverse populations
• Is a Washington State certificated teacher with appropriate endorsements
• Has experience in experiential education, project or problem-based learning, and service learning
• Role models compassionate and confident leadership
• Possesses self-awareness and is able to work in a collaborative setting
• Possesses strong organizational skills, flexibility and a good sense of humor
• Values a collaborative process in curriculum development and teaching
• Has prior teaching experience working with diverse groups in an experiential, project or problem-based, and/or service learning setting
• Has the ability, desire, and experience in maintaining professional behavior in every aspect of their professional lives
• Must be physically able to perform the tasks required to teach both indoors and outdoors
