Emergency Shelter monitor/housekeeper (Auburn, WA): SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Shelter monitor/ housekeeper is responsible for the shelter function during the overnight hours. Responsibilities include taking phone calls and screening for intakes, coordinating intakes through National Safeplace, filing paperwork, and performing janitorial tasks in all common areas and/or vacant rooms. Ensure basic needs are met for youth during awake hours and supervise youth during evening program.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Participate in the development and implementation of a program of activities for shelter residents to include: group/house meeting, recreation, outings, household chores, and opportunities for individual goal setting/planning meetings.
2. Maintain safety and supervision of all youth in the program at all times.
3. Maintain documentation of youth and activities through both location logs and client files.
4. Develop weekly menus and shopping lists for the program for food and supplies.
5. Fulfill housekeeping duties/tasks as assigned.
6. Collect and compile data relevant to funding sources.
7. Responsible for maintaining all necessary paperwork and organization of resources.
8. Attend staff meetings, trainings, orientation sessions, and supervisions as requested.

OTHER FUNCTIONS:
1. Assist in the daily operation of the shelter (i.e. shopping, household tasks/maintenance, cleaning, etc.)
2. Assist supervisor and other management with program needs as assigned.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
1. Demonstrated ability to appropriately intervene in crisis situations (Crisis intervention skills).
2. Ability to communicate and set clear and firm limits with youth in crisis.
3. Ability to communicate clearly both written and verbal.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Bachelor Degree in Social Work or equivalent. Two years experience working with youth at-risk, street youth, or youth in a residential setting may substitute for education.

REQUIRED LICENSES, CERTIFICATES OR KNOWLEDGE:
1. Current Washington State Drivers License and proof of valid insurance
2. Current CPR and First Aid Certification
3. Current Food Handlers Card
4. Current Washington State Counselor Registration Status (can obtain post hire)
5. AIDS/HIV training (can obtain post hire)
6. Proof of Negative TB test (within first 30 days of hire)

WORKING CONDITIONS:
1. Required evening, weekend and holiday shifts
2. Potential incidents requiring physical restraints
3. Able to lift a minimum of 35 lbs.

SAFETY HAZARDS OF THE JOB:
1. Intermediary safety hazards.
2. Potential violence and/or maltreatment from clients.
3. Potential damage to personal property.
