Context
Located on the border of SeaTac and Tukwila - ranked by the New York Times as the most diverse school district in the U.S. - SCSC is strategically positioned to empower the Somali community of 30,000 through a range of services including naturalization assistance, employment assistance, referrals, after-school tutoring, a youth leadership program, and a summer enrichment program for youth.

In SeaTac and Tukwila, at-risk East African youth of low-income refugee families have little opportunity to socialize in a culturally-familiar environment and receive assistance tailored to unique needs. Our after-school and summer programs offer a service otherwise unavailable.

Position Description
The Youth Programs Coordinator VISTA will manage the after-school, youth leadership, and summer enrichment youth programs of SCSC. Primary responsibilities include program supervision, volunteer recruitment, and strengthening relationships with program partners. Secondary roles include public relations (quarterly newsletters, annual report, website updates, social media) as well as assistance to the Executive Director and resource development for youth programs through grant writing . An ideal candidate has strong cross-cultural competency; an ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced, bilingual community center; program management experience; an out-going personality and is highly-organized.

This is an entry-level position, ideal for those looking for first-hand experience working with a refugee community.

Minimum Qualifications
-Strong cultural competency
-A willingness to learn and be flexible
-Passion for working with immigrant/refugee communities
-Ability to work independently and function in an unstructured environment
-Strong writing skills
-Strong interpersonal skills and a desire to work with youth of all ages


Desired Qualifications
-Experience writing grants, newsletters, or funding reports
-Experience with volunteer and program management
-Experience in education and youth development is also ideal
-Fluency in East African languages is desired, but not expected
