ABOUT THE POSITION

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Controller to join a dynamic YMCA serving the Seattle/King County metropolitan communities.  The YMCA of Greater Seattle (the Y) is one of the largest non-profit organizations in Washington.   Founded in 1876, we enhance the lives of more than 171,500 people annually through 12 branches, two overnight camps and more than 200 program sites throughout King and south Snohomish counties.  The Y has $70 million in operating revenues with over 2,300 employees.

We are seeking a cause driven leader who will guide us into the future by enhancing the financial practices to balance fiscal stewardship and operational effectiveness.  The position leads the organization’s financial practices, maintenance of its fiscal records and the preparation of financial reports.  The Controller ensures a system of strong internal controls and manages the annual external audit, the preparation of the IRS Form 990, grant compliance and all financial disclosures made by the organization. 

POSITION DELIVERABLES

·         Financial policies, procedures, practices and standards that meet all legal, IRS and GAAP requirements and support the Seattle Y’s race and social equity focus.

·         High performing, results-driven Accounting team that successfully collaborates within the Association Office as well as across the Association. 

·         Financial reports that highlight the results of operations and are relevant to decision making.

·         Metrics and other evaluation tools to measure Accounting department efficiency, effectiveness and positive contribution to Association results.

·         Association leadership inclusive of the delivery of financial related training for non-financial staff.

PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES & SCOPE:

·         Leads all functions of the accounting department for the Y.

·         Hires, trains, develop and oversee the Accounting staff. (Currently 6 direct reports + 6 indirect reports)

·         Manages the annual financial audit, inclusive of liaison with external auditors

·         Manages the preparation and submission of the Association’s IRS Form 990

·         Leads the annual budget process

·         Leads the design and implementation of appropriate financial systems and internal controls

·         Prepares or supervises the preparation of outside reports and filings.

·         Assists the CFO in financial analysis and support of the Audit, Finance and Investment Committees of the Board. 

 REQUIRED & PREFERRED BACKGROUND:

·         Bachelor's degree in accounting, or equivalent. 

·         Minimum seven (7) years of related experience in accounting with strong general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, income tax and banking working knowledge.

·         Minimum five (5) years supervisory experience.

·         Demonstrated understanding of GAAP. 

·         Demonstrated expertise with computerized accounting systems (MS Dynamics GP preferred) and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel & Outlook. 

·         Prefer

o   CPA or CMA with auditing experience

o   Multi-unit retail or non-profit experience

o   Knowledge of and previous experience with diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.).

o   Language proficiency in addition to English

o   YMCA Multi-Team Leader/Branch Leader certification

 COMPENSATION DETAILS
