Residential Youth Counselor Lead (Spruce St. SCRC): Work Schedule Full Time -- Graveyard Shift

Salary Grade 12 - $11.45-$16.29 hr. DOE

Duties & Responsibilities
Responsible for creating a favorable group climate for the emotional nurturance and healthy development of each resident in the unit. Counsel residents in a wide range of social behavioral and therapeutic skills. Maintain effective communications with staff, program participants, personnel from other agencies and visitors. Responsible for developing and monitoring the Individual Reunification Plans of assigned residents. Ability to provide orientation and training as assigned by supervisor. Knowing and understand the needs of youth, especially youth in crisis with their families, and those in residence specifically. Must be sensitive, receptive, and mature enough to be neither upset by the residents during situations or verbal abuse or non-compliance, nor cause the residents further adjustment difficulties. Must possess sufficient physical and emotional stamina and health to withstand the demands involved in the performance of the job. Must demonstrate personal flexibility, and a professional demeanor, and be able to work toward broad goals, while at the same time, work with a vast number and variety of details. Must maintain an attitude toward interactions with residents that is objective, free from personal bias: one that allows for perspective and flexibility in observing groups and individual behavior patterns. Be accountable for whereabouts of residents in care at all times. Providing a healthy environment that includes the maintenance of the appearance of the living space for residents. Ensure all logs and documentation is completed by the end of each shift. Transporting residents in accordance with Unit Policy. Counting and dispensing medication on every shift. Providing high quality services under the least restrictive conditions feasible. Maintaining effective and friendly (smiling, greeting, hospitality), and professional communications with all program staff, program participants, and personnel from other agencies, law enforcement, social workers, and visitors.

Education & Experience Required
• Bachelor's degree , or an AA degree with 2 years of acceptable experience in the human service fields Valid Washington State driver's license. Course work, experience, or training in child and/or human development, chemical dependency, mental illness, group dynamics, residential treatment, or related disciplines desirable. Experience and credentials must comply with Unit contract requirements.
• Supervisory experience preferred.
