Math and English Tutors for Para los Ninos

Para Los Niños (PLN), a progressive education based non-profit organization and a leader in bilingual, multi-cultural educational services, seeks Math and English Tutors.

Responsibilities:
1)      Ensure the goals of the program are achieved for each student. The goals are measurable by the following:
a)      Improve academic performance in math and reading
b)      Raise self-esteem
c)      Increase awareness of importance of community
d)     Work collaboratively with parents, teachers and SES Program Coordinator

Essential Job Functions:
2)      Develop and implement lessons and activities that stimulate and expand the skills of students
a)      Administer and use pre-assessment and on-going assessment tools to develop a specialized learning plan for each student
b)      Prepare and submit monthly student reports to the Program Coordinator
c)      Provide frequent feedback and positive reinforcement to students
d)     Teach literacy and math for depth of learning and student mastery
e)      Foster strong relationship with parents/guardians
f)       Maintain accurate student portfolios and prepare daily case notes
g)      Prepare incident reports if situations arise
h)      Attend and participate in all initial and on-going training
i)        Punctual attendance to tutoring sessions
j)        Commitment to complete full tutoring session January-June, 2012

Skills and Qualifications:
3)      Washington State Patrol background check
4)      Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI), WA fingerprint clearance
5)      Completed a minimum of 60 college credits
a)      Mathematics and language arts proficiency up to a 10th grade level
b)      Passion to make a positive impact on the lives of children from low income urban communities to educate them to proficiency
c)      Experience working with children from Latino, low income communities
d)     Strong classroom management skills
e)      Excellent communication and organizational skills
f)       Able to work collaboratively with teams
g)      Demonstrated reliability regarding attendance and work performance
h)      Ability to be creative, flexible and adaptive in all activities and responsibilities

MUST be Fluent in English with a professional understanding of Spanish


Application Procedure
Final selections will be made by January 6th, 2012, for the 2012 academic year.

Selected tutors will be required to participate in a ½ day training session.

This position is an hourly, non-exempt position
Hours will range from 8 to 16 hours a week, evening hours will be necessary
Salary Range:  $15 - $18 an hour depending on experience
