TITLE: Volunteer Coordinator/Community Liaison

GENERAL FUNCTIONS:
The Volunteer Coordinator/Community Liaison, under the leadership of the Program Manager, executes and coordinates the volunteer activities in the Mentoring Children of Promise program. Additionally this position develops and implements a comprehensive outreach plan to raise community awareness of Mentoring Children of Promise and to generate a broader base of community support to increase the capacity of the agency to provide mentoring services to high-risk youth.

QUALIFICATIONS: The position requires a minimum of a Bachelor degree in related field or two years experience or equivalent experience in successful coordination of a volunteer/community outreach program.

REQUIRED CHARACTERISTICS:
• Excellent customer services skills with individuals and groups. Friendly, enthusiastic, helpful demeanor, with the ability to connect to a wide range of people.
• Ability to balance multiple priorities. Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask.
• Strong knowledge of MS Office applications, especially Publisher, Word and Excel.
• Ability and willingness to work cooperatively in a positive team environment.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, comfortable with public speaking.
• Ability to present a professional demeanor and image when representing Mentoring Children of Promise and Volunteers of America.
• Ability to take initiative and work independently under the direction of the Program Manager.
• Ability to ensure confidentiality of information regarding volunteers, youth and families.
• Able to work some weekends and evenings.

PRINCIPLE ACTIVITIES:
• Creates and manages volunteer opportunities; communicates with supervisor and other program staff to determine programmatic volunteer needs.
• Completes screening process on potential volunteers including reviewing applications, running background checks and contacting references.
• Responsible for interviewing and matching volunteers to appropriate positions in Mentoring Children of Promise. Works cooperatively with other program staff, to interview, screen, and place volunteers in assignments that utilize their skills and interests and provides added value to Mentoring Children of Promise and its clients.
• Conducts volunteer orientation and initial training. Works cooperatively with program staff, to support on-going trainings for mentors and other volunteers, as appropriate.
• Works with program staff to update and expand training manuals.
• Works with other agency departments and staff (i.e. development, communications, volunteer services, VOAU, etc.) to leverage resources.
• Assists in the development and maintenance of the program's recruitment and marketing plan (including social media) with the purpose of promoting Mentoring Children of Promise's visibility and general recruitment efforts.
• Develops and implements marketing and outreach strategies designed to attract potential mentors, volunteers, community partners, and donors.
• Represents the agency in the community by developing professional alliances and relationships to increase the capacity of Mentoring Children of Promise.
• Tracks monthly volunteer information and trends and implements retention strategies to encourage long term volunteers.
• Develop data systems to track community contacts, in-kind donations, collaborative agreements, donors and donations, and other segments of community involvement that enhance the growth of Mentoring Children of Promise.
• Assures the completion of special projects as requested by Program Managers. Examples of these would include such projects as completing surveys, compiling volunteer data information; tracking volunteer satisfaction surveys, typing, editing and compiling policies and procedures, and researching trends and funding and partnership opportunities.
• Formats and creates Word, Publisher, and Excel documents, including marketing materials, letters, reports and spreadsheets.
• Other duties as assigned.
