MLK
VISTA is about building a learning community and developing leadership with
each other. We're a team committed to challenging and pushing one another. But
we also have fun! We have rad trainings sometimes afternoon barbeques
or even sing-a-longs... We value building a learning community and
offering support to one another that's foundational to the way we approach
doing work based on accountable relationships. Each MLK VISTA's input is highly
valued and helps set the tone and shapes the overall experience.
Because
of Solid Ground's Anti-Racist Initiative and the understanding of how
oppression and power and privilege shape and impact people's lives,
the MLK VISTA program is rooted in anti-racism and social justice. Our
focus is to create a learning community where we dive into self-reflection and
our own internalized messaging. We want to create just and caring communities.
Because VISTA's often work with organization's supporting low-income/working
class folks and because these folks are disproportionately people of color, the
need for an anti-racist/anti-oppressive analysis is necessary.
We're still accepting applications and the 2011-2012 team
